  1. Susan, I can highly recommend skipping the evening news. Keep up on the Inner tubes during the day, but starting at suppertime, ignore it all. That's much better for the blood pressure.

    1. I haven't watched the TV broadcast news to speak of in more than 50 years. I can vouch for it.

  2. I spent the morning and the first part of the afternoon out in Downers Grove canvasing for the Sean Casten (IL-6) campaign. Eric Davis of West Cook DFA and I walked the route together. It's definitely more enjoyable when two people walk together. Plus, Eric was able to handle the walk sheets without me having to struggle with a magnifier while I kept the clipboard and literature out of his hands. But I became more aware that my eyes are getting worse and I should probably not consider in-person canvassing for the future. There were a lot of things I didn't see nearly as well as I felt a should and several occasions when I wasn't really aware of step-downs. No falls or even near-falls, but could be a risk for the future.

We had a select list, so the fact we didn't encounter anyone who said they were for Roskam didn't mean much. But every one of the congressional yard signs we saw in the area were for Casten. The campaign was seriously pushing the idea of voting by mail, which they believe increases turnout, and we got four people to do that.

And on a related note, when I got home I was disturbed to find that my cell phone and the leatherette case it was in was no longer on my belt. It turned up in Eric's car, though. Both straps had broken without me noticing it. So I guess I'll have to carry it in my pocket from now on.

    2. I see a lot of Andrew Janz signs, definitely more than for Devin Nunes. But I don't get out of town much, and Fresno tends to vote Democratic--that's why it is cut up into small pieces joined to Republican territories. We shall see what happens. The holster for my late lamented cell phone just barely fit my new one, and had been cheap at Target; but now it is only available from them online for some ridiculous price. I found a better one guaranteed to fit my new phone for about $5 on eBay, with free shipping--liked it enough when I got it that I bought a couple of spares. It was covered by eBay's money back guarantee, too. A replacement from your cell phone company, such as Verizon or AT&T, would be unreasonably expensive, I expect.

  3. Vote by mail packets will be mailed Oct. 9th; one may vote at the county clerk's office beginning the day before that.

  4. Donald Trump Might Be the ‘Client From Hell’ [Click] And the Pope might be Catholic?

Bill—what are the measurements of your phone or its manufacturer and model?
I know you told us the maker and model, but I'm too lazy to look it up. My new case is actually intended for a type of smart phone, but fits my new flip phone with camera pretty well--just a bit longer than necessary.

    1. The only dimension of the LG Stylo 3 I know is that the screen is 5.7". That's the largest screen of any phone Tracfone offers and it's too big to fit in the case they sell.
