I think you will find, Alan, that the photo that accompanied the article was not a photo of Christine Blasey Ford, but that of a protester. Ford is not African American.
I was just watching Malaysia's new President on TV; 93 years old and he looks like he could be in his late sixties. But the striking thing was his command of the English language. His English is far better than the great majority of US politicians; excellent, really.
Why College Students Don’t Return Absentee Ballots [in Virginia] [Click] The ballots aren't postage paid? They have been here for decades at least. Sounds like voter suppression to me. It also suggests a tactic for people involved in voter registration--hand out stamps to those who sign up.

John Cassidy: “Will the White House and Republican leaders actually allow a potentially sensational set of hearings, with all the political risks that would entail, just weeks before the midterm elections in which they are already struggling mightily to attract women’s votes in key suburban districts? Or will they decide to cut their losses and withdraw the Kavanaugh nomination? We’ll find out soon.”
I tried to call puddle today to sing her Happy Birthday, but it just rang and rang. I imagine that means her birthday gift from the phone company was no service. 😒🙄☹️
Hopefully she will get to come here soon and read all her birthday messages and know we've been thinking of her on her special day. 🎂🍰🎉🎁🎏🍧
We have blue skies, and sunshine. River's running jade, and just barely sheeting over the bridge. Gorgeous day! What a lovely birthday gift from Ma. We had about an inch and a half of rain, in total.
And no, phone line's good--after I went back up and hung up the phone. . . My downstairs phone told me I was on a conference call. . . .
An inch and a half sounds good; if memory serves me well, the remnants of Florence should have passed by your place and be headed toward Cat and listener about now.
Since I now have two lines, if I don't hang up (pharmacist called to tell me I have a prescription I need to fill) *properly* I won't notice till I try to call out on the non-dialup line.
Happy Birthday, low water, electricity, telephone, and internet service!

DeleteHurrah!!
Of course, that probably means my call to her knocked her off Dial-up. Sigh.

Florence visited Cat today, but not me. We could have used a few inches of rain, but all we got was blue sky, sunshine and 81F. I'm eager for Autumn!!
DeleteCongratulations on the beautiful birthday. And many more of the same!
