I don't have high hopes of seeing the Perseid meteor shower this year; the moon is down, but the smoke is thick enough that only the brightest stars are visible. Mars is quite spectacular, though--very bright and distinctly red (maybe more so because of the smoke?).
Honking big thunderstorm a couple of hours ago. River receding, but still over the bridge. I expected to come down to a fried computer.
West Virginians for Personal Liberty is an anti-abortion group trying to get an anti-abortion amendment through this fall. That was my third call from them. Bastards.
I've been getting slammed with calls, whether political or scammy. So glad I have caller I.D. so I never answer the phone unless it's a name I know or a business I'm dealing with. One of them actually left me a message inviting me to come to a Democratic phone banking that was going on *right that minute*. As if. As much as I hate phone calls I'm not about to inflict them on somebody else!
I do the same thing. The only other thing we can do is answer the phone and keep them talking a really long time so they don't get to call other people. LOL.
I give out my home office [land line] phone number rather than our home phone number. There is a recording telling them they may leave a voice message but it is better to send a fax to the same number. Most times these days they don't respond at all; some of it might be text messages (which I am not set up for), or maybe it is the phone bank software that hangs up when a recording comes on.
Nixon's approval ratings were pretty steady up until the Watergate hearings, when they fell substantially. At that point everyone who could be persuaded had been, and again his ratings stabilized. Even at the end half of Republicans still supported him. If that precedent predicts the future, Mr. Mueller's report, indictments, and other things that follow on should prove decisive, one way or the other.
Thank you, listener; I feel a little reticent about hogging the conversation, but it is therapeutic for me. For another therapeutic item, please see the next thread.

Better air quality this morning; can barely see the foothills through the smoke, so maybe ten miles? Looking up, there were white clouds and blue sky.
