Hydrangea?

  1. Where I grew up hydrangeas were very dark blue; here they are pink. The difference is the pH of the soil--it is acid where I grew up, and it is alkaline here. As memory serves, iron makes them blue, and aluminum makes them pink.

  2. “The expression I used the other day was inartful, so I want to be very clear. Of course America is great and of course America has always been great. No one questions that.”_— Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), quoted by the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, trying to walk back his declaration that America “was never that great.”

I think we may now discount Gov. Cuomo's future potential in the federal government.

“I want to begin today by expressing my condolences to the family of a person I knew well,” Trump said Thursday during a Cabinet meeting. “She worked for me on numerous occasions. She was terrific—Aretha Franklin—on her passing. She brought joy to millions of lives and her extraordinary legacy will thrive and inspire many generations to come.”

It’s hard not to find effusive praise for a woman who managed so much in three-quarters of a century, and Trump’s comments indicate he has some sense of the scope of what she did. But with four simple words—she worked for me—he ruined most of that.

He makes it sound like she was his maid. I hate him.

  4. Sorry about all that stuff in the middle. It didn't show up in my comment box - just appeared after I posted it. The internet hates me.

"Brennan, who knows whereof he speaks, believes that the president is a threat to the security of the United States — a counterintelligence threat, no less, in thrall to President Vladimir Putin of Russia. The president attacks him, severing Mr. Brennan’s access to classified information. The deans of national security rise up to defend him — and, by implication, intelligence officers and federal investigators who are closing in on the White House.

They are sending a message to active-duty generals and admirals, soldiers and spies. Remember your oath to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Think twice before following this man’s orders in a crisis. You might first consider throwing down your stars."

  6. Susan, that last is the best news I've heard in a long time. We REALLY do need the smart people in this nation who serve the Constitution to be looking out for us!

  7. Alan, I wasn't 100% sure it was Hydrangea because the flowers are so loose, not big round balls. Hydrangeas are naturally WHITE, actually! I know people who have blue and pink on the same bush because of how they feed the soil. It is a thing in New England for people along the coast to feed theirs to make them blue. I like them white! LOL.
