Bon Fire

  1. Ugh. There are so many hateful, vicious people on Facebook right now. There's one Resist/Create site that the trumptrolls absolutely flock to. Are they getting so bad because they know he's going down? Or are they thinking to just overwhelm us with hate and venom?

I just do "spots" of time on the computer because I'm busy with cooking and chores and how-the-hell-am-I-ever-going-to-get-organized. Today I'm washing flannel to pre-shrink it to make bordered baby blankets, I made some apple hand pies (they look pretty pitiful) and I freeze them unbaked to be baked as we want them.

I made the Pancake Mix from the 1st Make-A-Mix Cookbook. I'm going to make two batches of pancakes because you can freeze the cooked ones and reheat them in the oven when company comes.

Same thing for biscuits, but I haven't decided which recipe to use yet. Also, the other things freeze pretty quickly, but unbaked biscuits need 2 to 3 hours to freeze well.

After that I'll make Salisbury Steak and mashed potatoes for our dinner and then I'll fall down in a heap and take a really long nap!

Lovely weather we're having for Festivus Eve! But maybe some snow for Sunday.

  3. I think the trolls don't actually have enough gray matter to pick what to hate. They just hate. Anything will do.

  4. Would have posted something last night except Google wanted me to reset my password and I didn't feel like it. Still resent having to.

  5. Afternoon break time; things going much better at work today than yesterday. Just looked over notes on the previous thread.

listener--so the Unicorn is an eclectic doodads store; we need those! One of the folding knives sure looks like a Damascus Blade--for maybe five or ten years it has been known (rediscovered) how to make them, so they ought to be commercially available. Re your winter advisory, it reminds me of an old story:

The engineer on a logging train is filling up the tender with water when a fellow comes walking out of the woods; after exchanging greetings, the woodsman asks the engineer if he ever gets down the street of an evening, if he isn't too tired. Engineer allows as he does, sometimes. The woodsman asks the engineer if he might get something for him. Engineer says "Well, yes, maybe; what is it?" Woodsman says "An almanac." Engineer: "What do you need with an almanac out here?" Woodsman: "Well, when you live way out here and don't have an almanac, you just have to take the weather as it comes."

Twenty-seven degrees predicted here last night; supposed to be thirty-one tonight. There was a dusting of snow in the mountains.

Susan: I didn't get the cookbook; what are Elite Eggs?

    1. Eggs for the Elite are scrambled eggs in a sour cream sauce that stay warm for over two hours in a crock pot.

2 doz. eggs scrambled in 2 Tbs. melted butter. In a small pan, medium heat melt 2 Tbs. of the butter. Stir in 2 TBs. flour, stir and cook until bubbly. Remove from heat and blend in 1 cup sour cream. Return to heat and cook until bubbly and smooth; set aside.

Remove eggs from heat after scrambling and gently stir in the sour cream mixture.

The cookbook I originally got this from made it as a filler for a baked potato at a brunch. Sprinkles on the side - bacon bits, grated cheese, shrimp, etc. I just make the "eggs in the good sauce" as my kids call it because it's one of their favorites.

    2. Interesting; big family size!

We probably have the turkey; I haven't called home yet. Turkey, stuffing and gravy are my end of things.

    3. Susan, you deserve a bouquet of flowers and a medal ... and a comfy chair and some time off!

We are going to Root*Center*Son's house on Christmas Eve. We'll bring a salad and he'll make the Wheatloaf and Ravioli. We'll open gifts after dinner, then go to the Episcopal church service. On Christmas Day he'll come by for lunch and one more gift. Then we'll go over to Youngest's house and see Eldest*Grandson (4) and Youngest*Granddaughter (2).

On Thursday, Daughter is coming with Youngest*Grandson (almost 2). Our whole-little-tribe gathering is Saturday the 30th.

Meanwhile, we got 7" of snow today and are about to get some rain and ice, then more snow. But, hey, it'll be in the 30's on Saturday (the 23rd)!! Later in the week it'll turn pretty cold. Highs around 2F or 3F, lows down to -13F.

  6. Talking to my kid. He's just heard about Turduckens and is enchanted. Was unhappy to discover they're not new, lol! I'm still holding out for a goose.

    1. We have my great-grandparents' goose platter. Longer and skinnier than a turkey platter.
