Jim Foley's family's ordeal sounds very much like my friend Sis Levin's experience with the State Dept when her husband Jerry Levin (CNN Beirut Bureau Chief at the time) was held hostage in Beirut by Hezbollah, back in the 80's (while President Reagan was declaring openly that no hostages had been taken and later "we do not negotiate with terrorists"). They even went so far as to try to keep different hostages' spouses apart by insinuating to each that the other was insane. She broke the news of Jerry's kidnapping on Good Morning America, shocking the State Dept. See Sis Levin's book *Beirut Diary* or Paramount Pictures' movie based on her book, titled "Held Hostage" and starring Marlo Thomas as Sis. http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/12/us/james-foley-mother-us-response/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
We're having a warm spell here--near or equal to the record for the date. I've been far lazier than I should, but a near 100% "off " day is good. Think I'll buzz on over to the Guardian and see what's up in Scotland today; independence looks like as close run a thing as could be.
I've had a most frustrating evening! For some reason that now escapes me, I removed the brief instrumental interlude between the verse and the main body of a song. Looking at it again tonight, I decided to replace the interlude. Simple, right? Well, it took well over an hour and, by the end, I had managed to mangle the song so badly that it will probably take several hours to straighten out. What a bloody klutz!!! And I don't really have any accomplishments today to balance out the fiasco. Some days are just like that.
This evening, for the first time this season, Nickie Kitty went to sleep on her fuzzy pad and she had to call me over to point out the fact. She seemed quite pleased with herself.
Sounds like at least Nickie Kitty had a kind of accomplishment on Saturday. I hear you…there are some days that are just plain frustrating from end to end. May your Sunday be just right!
Alan, I am keen to see what happens in Scotland on Tuesday. Could this be the beginning of some large nations beginning to become ununited? Is there yet hope for the Republic of Vermont? ;-)
The Northern Lights were a bust. Sigh. (Next Time!)
ReplyDeleteBut Howard Dean is always First! :-)
