On the way to work Saturday morning the sun was noticeably later rising than two and four weeks ago; it rose at 0642. Quite a few truckloads of tomatoes, grapes, and almonds on the road; pistachio harvest just beginning, and a lot of the raisins cut and laid out to dry. (Some have already been picked up.)
I just finished reading Isabelle Wilkerson’s “The Warmth of Other Suns.” Highly recommended nonfiction. The way she organized the book is downright ingenious, and effectively deals with a brobdinagian subject (the emigration of Blacks from the South) in only 600 pages. The organization is not unprecedented, at least in its parts, but the final synthesis may well be unique.
The ER kept me up all night long last night, so I will be going to bed very early tonight (Sunday). I thought a couple of naps would get me into shape to do some work this evening, but my brain is not in good working order. When I headed home from work about a quarter after five this afternoon it was still 102 degrees, and there were some unusual stormy-looking clouds--the weather forecast says there is some chance of rain on account of a hurricane coming up from Baja California.
Howard Dean is First this Sunday.
ReplyDeleteSunday, Monday and always!
DeleteCold (65ยบ); oven's on. Brrrrrrrrrrr
ReplyDeleteRather warm here. Like Listener said a few days ago, the weather map seems to have gotten turned upside down.
