  1. I wish Howard Dean had the handling of the oil companies.

  2. Listener, the living room wallpaper is very pretty, and the carpet sounds pretty as well. Wish I could see it. Maybe, when the room is finished, you could show us a photo?

I finished A Storm of Swords. A Song of Ice and Fireis not for the faint of heart, R rated for both sex and violence. I must say though neither is gratuitous. It's a hard, violent world Martin writes about. This one is definitely not recommended for Listener. An intriguing story all the same with extremely well drawn characters. I'm downloading A Dance with dragons and A Feast for Crows. The sixth volume isn't out yet. Can't remember how many volumes Bill said the tale is projected to run to in the end? It's gonna be a hard wait for the next volume.

    1. I checked to make sure my memory was right. What was originally planned for 3 books expanded to six and then seven. Not everybody is certain it won't end up at eight.

    2. Besides being enthralled with the story itself, I take my hat off to Martin for the skill with which he weaves it. At first I thought the shifting POV would be confusing, not to say distracting and annoying. Instead, it's fascinating to follow the different threads, each character's experience and how it fits into the larger tapestry.

So, there are at least two more books, possibly three? A good deal to look forward to then. I'm going to go start A Dance with Dragons.

    3. Yes, two books if it doesn't expand again.

When I first encountered A Game of Throne, way back when, I was put off by the shifting viewpoint. Or more precisely the shift between two very different stories, because I knew this portended a VERY long novel. But when I read the volume for a book discussion I found it wasn't really a problem in any other way. But I'm not going to read any of the rest of it until the novel is complete.

  3. Neither the glasses nor the book arrived. I do have e-books to read on the train, but will only have about a week and a half after I get back to reread the one for the book discussion.

And work is now at the point where I wish I had an extra day to get things down on paper while they're fresh.

  4. Double drat, Bill! Take deep breaths and try to enjoy the time between all the have-to's.

Cat, I very much appreciate the anti-recommendation. LOL!

Thanks for the kind words about our house renovation design. We are a month or so away from having enough done to photograph, but I'll be sure to show the result. :-)

    1. Well, Listener, I know your aversion to thud and blunder, er, blood and thunder, not that A Song of Ice and Fire really seems like your cup of tea anyway.
