  2. What a day!! There *was* a prediction of rain, and most areas around here got about an inch or inch and a half. This little corner got 3.45"! Woke to major flooding. Nancy's company got an extra night, as they couldn't get across the bridge. Still over as dark fell.

    1. Yikes, puddle!!

How close did the river get to your car this time?

We seem to have been spared the worst of the storm, but will know for sure come morning.
One more branch fell into our driveway on Sunday with several more perched ready for a wind to send them down. Heh.

  3. Hi Puddle, glad to see you online. It rained here too off and on but fortunately no flooding that I know of. Sounds like you need your riverbed to be dredged and the channel made deeper...not that that's going to happen, unfortunately.

  4. Along with the Supremes book I'm also at long last reading George R.R. Martin's A Game of Thrones, about three quarters of the way through, in fact, and currently downloading A Clash of Kings, second book in A Song of Ice and Fire. I don't know how many books are in the series - Audible has five.

I also was pleased to find a further installment of the Georgianna Rannoch series. I know Bill wasn't overly impressed with Georgie, but that's hardly surprising. It is chick lit. But I'm looking forward to Georgie's further adventures and
scrapes. On the other hand, Audible does not have any new Harry Dresden books, which is disappointing.

    1. I've always thought Renee should record audible books. She has a lovely speaking voice.

    2. A Song of Ice and Fire, originally planned as a trilogy, is now scheduled for seven volumes (five extant). I have no great confidence it will not end up as eight or nine, which is part of the reason I will not read it until the novel is complete.

I am currently half-way through Neal Stephenson's Reamde (sic). to be discussed by one of my SF discussion groups in a couple of weeks. At 1000+ pages this is simply too long for anybody who has other things to do with their life, although I do want to specify that it holds your interest despite the length. But I should also mention that it turns out not to be SF: it is a techo-thriller with no true SFnal elements.

    3. Interesting about A Song of Ice and Fire. Guess I can take my time then. I'm enjoying it and will look forward to further volumes. It's always fun to have a series in which you can look forward to more books, though my only experience with waiting for new volumes of a novel is with Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials, though I discovered it when the first and second volumes were already out in paperback and I only need to wait for the third. It was a tough wait.

  5. I have made further and significant progress with reading "1493." Excellent book. Still far from having the tune of "The Red Flag" (White Cocade version) right. Work at the hospital wasn't as demanding as it often is, but when I had to hit the deck this morning I must have been in a state of DEEP sleep, not just napping (while there was no work to be done); I had the devil's own time waking up.
