Once Green Mountain Care gets started three years from now, it will be interesting to see how it stacks up against Obamacare. My guess is that there will be very little practical difference, but the experiment is worth trying.
I was puzzled by the cost-savings graphs. They show savings beginning in 2015, two years before single-payer comes into being. And it's never stated whether these saving are in comparison to 2014, 2013, or 2009. I suspect the comparison is to 2009, meaning that the incorporate the modest savings already achieved by the ACA and the much larger savings we will see in the coming year.
We'll see, I guess. I'm proud of our citizen legislature for being willing to take this on.
I am hearing from some friends who have been required to sign up for Obamacare that their premiums have risen drastically. They are hoping Vermont can do better.
I'm interested in hearing more about "premiums have risen drastically." I would presume this is not for the same policy. Although if they were young and healthy -- the type of policyholders the insurance companies liked to cherrypick -- the fact that Obamacare policies cover everyone could have resulted in higher premiums.
I suspect that the article is rather less comprehensive and accurate than we might like; not unusual for the popular press. But good on Vermonters!
Not much in the Central Valley ag report today. There was some fog on the way to work this morning--the first to speak of this year, I think. (The ground is drier than usual.) The newly planted fields that were just beginning to turn green two weeks ago seem to be planted with winter wheat. --Alan
Can Vermont's Single-Payer System Fix What Ails American Healthcare?
ReplyDelete[Click] Go Vermonters! (I reckon Howard had a bit to do with this...)
