My friend and neighbor and egg lady starts radiation (breast cancer) today. The friend who's watching the chickens keeps the eggs this week. My mind and heart aren't staying too far from her this week.
Life is such a crap shoot: she's already a breast cancer survivor, and this is a new/different type from last time. She's got the HER2+ gene, so a tiny nodule, caught early, and clear lymph nodes has turned into a major life threatening deal. Been listening to Denise talk about Herceptin for years. Never imagined that it would be needful.
She's very lucky that she's eligible for seed radiation--I remember the huge radiation damage that Edwin walked away with, and lived with, so that's huge relief. But she's going to be in chemo until next summer. Denise is right about the Herceptin: it doubles survivability, but Lord, a year is a long long row to hoe.
Dear puddle...I am so sad for your friend's life-threatening challenge. My heart will be companioning yours, as yours companions hers. ♥
Tomorrow I will be attending the funeral of a former coworker from the Bookshop. She was tired this Summer, so moved in with her daughter. A few weeks ago she got a diagnosis of Leukemia and a few weeks to live. She died a week ago. So harsh. I know her daughter and her grandchildren who are home schooling.
Be Howardly today! :-)
ReplyDeleteThought it was about time I started posting some new t-shirt designs. Trying to be "productive".
