22 days early, born by cesarean section

Mama was aware during the delivery
** Everyone is doing really fine!! **

Daddy is the 17th of 21 grandchildren in his generation
Rowan is the 13th of 13 grandchildren in his generation

Yet Rowan is the first boy of his generation with the family's last name!

    2. That's an impressive number of grandchildren. Although my father was one of seven children (six of whom lived to adulthood), I was one of only six grandchildren. And although I don't have an exact count of the number of great-grandchildren in Marcus's generation, I don't believe it is over a dozen. (He is an only grandchild, of course. At least, on my side of the family. He has four cousins on his mother's side.)

  3. Grammie (listener) made the quilt. Well, is still making it! The photo out front shows just the middle.

  5. That's a big boy, listener! My first was three weeks early on his own: 22" long, 7 pounds 11 ounces, and his head was *huge* (the plate overlaps enormous!). Doc kinda thought that if he'd waited, he wouldn't have made it out at all. . . . As it was, it was 22 1/2 hours of labor.

  6. listener--Very good news indeed! Three weeks early isn't a big deal these days. Mostly the last month is spent porking up. Naomi was a month early (emergency C-section due to eclampsia) and had no problems. She grew faster than normal, probably making up for the lower birth weight. As long as the baby's lungs were mature there shouldn't be any significant problems. A couple of the last-minute things to mature are the ability of the liver to conjugate bilirubin (readily treatable with sunlight if necessary), and thyroid gland function (a repeat thyroid test after a month or so should be OK if the one at birth showed decreased activity; no treatment is usually necessary).

cat--I didn't mean to correct you--rather to denigrate my own curiosity. Especially in the workplace I frequently make the observation (with as much sarcasm as I can get into my voice) that if it's good for us to know I have no doubt we will be told [by management]. Thanks for the update, puddle. I'll send Demetrius a note and a bit more.

    1. Alan ~~ I feel the same way: I'm curious but have to assume I will be told as much as it's good for me to know. But I appreciate puddle passing along the now-public knowledge from FaceBook.

  7. Quiet mild calm day here.

Avocado for dinner--grocery stores are a blessing, eh?

  8. Thanks for all the congratulatory wishes! ♡

We got to meet wee Rowan today, and HOLD him!
He happened to be awake and alert and it was heaven to cuddle him.

Then he started to suck on his fists and it was time for Mom again. :-) I'd say he's going to be just fine. Smart little fellar.

  9. All good, listener; very glad to hear it.

I dare say WVa would probably be a bit too cool in the winter for growing avocados; they're kind of touch and go hereabouts. Linguistic factoid of the day: guacamole is a contraction of aguacate [avocado] mole [related to the English "mill" or "mull," I suppose].

And now to try watching "Romantics Anonymous" again; had to break off two weeks ago when I got a call to help out with a staffing problem at the hospital lab. It was a most promising love comedy.
