Huzzah for Dean! I expect the records of his administration should show him as absolutely respectable.
Kunming--capital of Yunnan. Yunnan is the farthest east that a version of the Cinderella story has been found. The Yunnan version involves the magical fish that is also known in eastern Europe. Yunnan is also known for its salt wells, which held the record for drilling depth well into the 20th century, deeper than most oil wells, and all done with locally developed technology and without much metal. Bamboo drill strings, tools for retrieving broken drill bits, the whole shebang. Natural gas also came out of the salt wells, and the locals developed systems including what we would call gasogens to store it, and systems for using it as fuel to evaporate the brine from the wells. Gas being locally abundant, it is still used for fuel. I remember seeing photos of buses in Kunming with big gas bags on top for power.
I have been on the run all day long. I worked until 3pm at the Library, came home and took a 15 minute power nap, then went off to a chiropractor appointment. After that came grocery shopping, shoveling and making dinner...which we ate around 8:30pm. I am still cooking in advance of the weekend, since I work tomorrow and will have mostly only Friday to clean like crazy and finish making food. Dean blogger Jovana is coming from CA for four days!!! It's funny how you see your house differently when someone new to it is going to see it.
Anyway! The great news is that my chiropractor did a thorough exam (far more than the PT guy did!), and said emphatically that there is nothing wrong with my hip, and my shoulder issue is tendonitis around the rotator cuff. Since he does yoga himself (the slow kind that I was expecting my class to be like last fall, only it wasn't), he said that two of the yoga positions we used (Downward Facing Dog and Plane) are brutal on the rotator cuff. So he suspects it was indeed a yoga injury, and he believes it's mild enough that it won't need surgery, just a few weeks of exercises and treatments.
I am calling the PT folks tomorrow and cancelling altogether. And I feel rather liberated. The PT guy was plotting an entire recreation of my bone structure and I say that's just not on. I like my chiropractor's wife (and office manager) so much, it was almost like visiting friends rather than having a doctor appointment. I go back twice a week for the next two weeks...which is funny because it's the same days I was scheduled to be at the PT guy's.
We had a little sun first thing this morning, then it snowed all day, but all together we got only 7", so that's okay. Just at sunset the SUN came out and it was glorious! Must get back to folding laundry and quilting, but wanted to come by and at least say Hi!

Welcome Spring!!!
About the same here.
DeleteWe have forecast lows in the mid teens here tonight with tomorrow's high around 34. A wee bit nippy!
DeleteAh, Spring!
Just at dusk
ReplyDeletethe air became pink
and gold, heavy,
washing against the walls
of earth and sky
tinting them
And a small rain
spring rain
began
Tomorrow, snow
But spring snow
