  3. I meant to get my desk fully excavated and things laid out to start tax returns tomorrow. Got tired of it. Did some recreational reading and some genealogical research. French toast in the morning.

  4. listener asked about my tax return. Literally minutes after I had e-filed my federal return, just before bedtime,I learned that the group I had mostly been volunteering for -- unlike similar groups I was familiar with -- had chosen to incorporate as a social club rather than a 501(c)3 educational, scientific, cultural and charitable organization. So my out-of-pocket expenses are not tax-deductible and an amended return is required (should have waited before filing). Couldn't sleep, so I got up in the middle of the night and did the amended return. It's ready to mail now.

State return still to do, but that's ultra-simple in Illinois. All you need are the adjusted gross income from your federal return, the amount that represent retirement income (not taxed in Illinois), and the amount of real estate taxes you paid (5% of which is a credit against your state income tax).

    1. Bill! What a bummer that the group decided to be "social" instead of a 501(c)3!!! Having done your taxes already, you get whacked twice by the decision. :-(

I'm glad the change was at least simple to do. May you sleep well tonight!

    2. Leprecon, Inc. being a social club may have its upside. If we win the bid and the convention makes a profit, there was a suggestion there may be a partial reimbursement of bidding expenses. I don't think a 501(c)3 could do that.

I've been surprised how wide awake I have been todya. I lay down for a nap, expecting maybe 2-1/2 hours, and was up again in 20 min. The amended return is in the mail and the state return has been e-filed. Other than that, instead of concentrating on the maore important stuff, I've been doing something I intended to do that takes very little thought.

  5. Sooo, puddle, your storm is coming up here. We're to expect 9-16" of new snow from Monday midnight to Wednesday morning. Punxsutawney Phil was sure wrong this year! And Spring is due on Wednesday morning, but I'm thinking it's going to be a white Spring Equinox and Holy Week.

  7. We got a new storm: six to eight inches, happening right now. Been going since before noon, not due to stop till tomorrow night. Ugh. It's a combo of rain, ice pellets, sleet, snow. Basically, slush. Hope the power holds because I'm purely out of propane.

    1. Ohhh, do take care! We're down to 15% on the propane ourselves. Hoping they'll deliver by the weekend, but who knows?

  8. One of the kids at rehearsal today saw Demetrius (who is helping with costumes) and asked "Are you Samuel L. Jackson?" Let me guess...this kid doesn't know a lot of Black people?

    1. A number of years ago I had my hair long, to or just past my shoulders, and very curly. My hair dresser remarked that the style made me look like Merle Streep(sp?) Needless to say, I was over the moon at the compliment, but Mum was nonplussed. she totally couldn't see it. The point being, different people see different things.

    2. True. But it's also true that people of any race are worse at identifying perpetrators of a different race. There really IS a "they all look alike" effect. D wasn't offended. The whole family was pretty amused.

  9. There is still some excavation to be done in my "office," but the floor is mostly cleared, the desk is cleared, filing cabinet cleaned and restocked in a more functional manner, and I did actually get a start on my taxes. State tax returns here might be a trifle more demanding than Bill's, but not by much. I got SO much done over the past four days, it feels really great. Stuff that's been hanging fire literally for years. Half an hour ago I found a copy of an exchange of letters from 2000 that the boss and I had been looking high and low for, and had figured was gone for sure. I thought I would find my passport, but no such luck. Will file a report of loss and apply for a new one tomorrow if time permits. Wouldn't want the border myrmidons to get riled up when we travel to Canada and back in September.

Gee, you folks back east surely DO deserve some Spring, and don't seem to be in line for it anytime soon! Daytime highs here in the high seventies. The blossoms of the flowering pears (a common street tree here) are falling--almost like a minor snowfall when there is a bit of wind. There is a nice view of snow on the Sierra crest, however far away that is. We'd best enjoy it while we can--we get Summer like North Dakota gets Winter.

Think I'll read a Darkover short story or two, and hit the sack.

  10. "we get Summer like North Dakota gets Winter."

Thanks, Alan! I am no longer envious. Even the idear of upper 70's in late Winter makes me cringe. I never liked 70's in December either.

Very sorry your passport went missing. About the only way to find it is to get a new one. ;-)
