Visited Kunming in January--70º! I said, oh well, prolly makes the summers hell. . . . Nope. 70º in summer, too. Not for nothing is it nicknamed the Land of Eternal Spring. . . . Lovely people, too.
Where is Kunming? I could get used to that weather very easily.
Gorgeous sunshine today, but the birds and beasts are not fooled. They are chowing down ahead of the storm.
I love a good storm when I can sit home and watch the snow fall. Tomorrow I have PT at noon and work 3-8pm, and all that while the snow will be piling up on my car 1-2" per hour. BAH!
But it promises to be 40F on Sunday, so oh well. Ha!
Ya. It was on that trip that we got to visit the China side of the Mekong. I brought home a river stone from that. But have lost track of it over the years.
A wonderful story also from that visit: The students would just wander the streets, and families would come out and invite them in, and feed them dinner. One of the students asked *why* they seemed to like Americans so much. "Our daughters." But the Americans just made them into whores! "You don't understand: the Japanese came, and raped our daughters. The Russians came and raped our daughters. The Americans came, and *paid* our daughters. . . . " Sometimes those daughters supported their entire three generation family.
Mr. Tom Kitty is going to have to be put to sleep. Though Sis and I don't see the behavior, Dad is certain Mr. Tom starts all fights he's involved in. Because of Mr. Tom's condition (He has the feline equivalent of HIV), Dad is worried that he might infect another kitty, especially Angel, whose immune system is already compromised. We're all miserable about it; but, like Sis says, if it has to be done, better sooner than later.
Oh, no!! Although I can't help but wonder if we overrate the importance of FIV just because it vaguely resembles HIV. Orange kittykat had FIV and lived to be 18.
Could I get used to eternal spring? Well, I lived in Los Angeles County for 9 years. Summer highs pretty much in the 70s except for the couple of weeks a year we got Santana winds off the desert. Winter highs in the 50s. By the end of the 9 years I wanted to see seasons again.
Although I am very much ready for winter to be over. On our way back from the grocery store this afternoon, Penny and I saw snowdrops. We also saw snow falling. There's more than one reason I'm looking forward to being in San Antonio 2-1/2 weeks from now.
I also can't help wondering if the condition is overrated. But I am told shelters won't take cats with it. I'm sure Tom would be fine in a one-kitty household...and he'd probably be fine here. It's just that the lurking doubt is always there when other kitties are involved. Most unfortunately, we don't know anyone we could give him to, where he'd be in a loving, one-kitty home.
I donno. Preemptive euthanasia? The thought makes me sick. And it cuts pretty near the bone for a disabled person. It's all horrible!
Catreona, there is no way under the sun that YOU have a hand in Mr.Tom's situation. Is there chance for a second opinion? If there is no way of staying his ending, then cuddle him awhile and maybe tell him you'll see him later when your own transition day comes. Prayers ensuing. ♥
When my client told me there would be no work today, I thought I'd get caught up on almost everything. Nope. Things I hadn't expected came up. Still, some progress being made.
Howard's first this fine snow winter morning!

Delete"Terminus of the Burma road." I thought I remembered it from WW II.

ReplyDeleteI feel like an accessory to murder.

Cat, I'm sorry. What about Craig's list or something like that?

ReplyDeleteI'm ready for Spring!
ReplyDeleteSnowdrops in the falling snow? That's rather a lovely image. Thanks, Bill. I needed something lovely to think about.
