  4. listener, later this week, me and Stevie are making a visit to the garden plot. Next to the big veggie area, is a small circle. The redbud I planted died, so that's yet to come/be redone. Edwin and Rudi are already there, and Stevie's place has been dug since last fall. (Mine, too, lol! Mine's temporarily filled in.) So we'll be doing some talkin' and remembering. Good that he'll always be close by.

Goobey hasn't noticed yet, and unlikely that he would, except for worrying about Mama -- Stevie has pretty much resided outside of the main living space since last fall -- because he was hiding under things I couldn't get him out from, so he was only coming in when I could keep an eye on him. He stopped being able to walk at all around January, and defacto moved into the bathroom. By spring, he could no longer use the litter box, so a cleanable floor became vital.

  5. This is interesting: I'd been wondering why the R's were gloating. . . .

  6. Interesting, Puddle.

First, it makes sense that an incumbent would be more sober than a challenger. Second, no matter what the Pres. did or said, the Republicans would mock it. That's what they do.

  7. What I am really delighted about is how sure footed his advisers have been, AND that he's a personality that can listen to, a values good advice. . . . Certainly can say neither about Romney.

    1. I can't think of anything positive to say about Romney.

    2. He wears nice suits? Drives nice cars?

      Nevermind. . . .

    3. He'll be compost one day?

Sorry. Flashback to a children's book in which a boy tries to think of 10 good things to say about his cat at the little burial ceremony. He struggles to come up with a 10th thing, and then, coincidentally, learns from someone that all plants and animals that die will decompose and help other living things grow. So he has his tenth thing.

"He's rotting now. And that's a good thing. Because it helps the plants."

      I f*cking hated that book.

    4. Romney will probably have himself made into a diamond, and therefore won't be returned to the dust from which he came.

I got dressed in a hurry this morning. I think I put my bitch suit on by mistake.

  8. My Engelbert Fan Club pres. returned my check, saying she's not collecting dues this year. It's nice to have twenty-five dollars more than I expected to have, but it's still kind'a weird.

  9. Ah, puddle. You did so very much for him. What a gift of love! I'm glad he was docile at the last and could go out on his own terms.

Our struggle with Emma was that she started to go a little crazy and had that middle of the night freak out, hissing and spitting and growling at us. It passed, but was likely to increase. Scary, and upsetting to all of us, including Emma.

  10. Sooo...an interesting birthday, to be sure!

We checked out three garden centers, hunting for Winterberry bushes. One had some that were too small (and would stay too small), and some that were too large (too expensive). The second had some that might have worked, but the leaves looked blighted in some way. We did at least get some Tulip and Narcissus bulbs there, and two Guarda (Wand Flower) plants! The third was the charm.

We pulled in to the third garden center, stopped the truck, got out and started to go in to ask about the bushes. Sweetie turned around and noticed a little smoke around the engine. I thought he was half kidding when he said, "My truck is on fire!" But when he opened the hood sure enough the engine was in flames! But he had first dug the fire extinguisher out of the truck, and was ready. My hero! We looked at it and quoted, "It's dead, Jim." The guys at the garden center moved the truck by pushing it, while I discovered with a little help that they had exactly the "Winter Red" bushes we wanted! To make the story complete, it turns out that the guy who owns the garden center is also on the fire department! Ha! I used my cell phone to call two of our sons who work 15 minutes away ... neither answered, so I left messages. A few minutes later my phone rang. Oh good, I thought, this must be one of the sons! No, it was Daughter calling from Chicago to wish me a happy birthday. LOL! I had to hang up with her to take a son's call a few minutes later. The son who called is the one who rode his bicycle to work today. Heh. But, his boss heard of the issue and said, "Go!" and off he went. He rode home, got his car and came to the rescue! Yay!!

The truck is still at the garden center. Those folks were so nice to us, and we were so glad to be buying the bushes from them...even though we now had no way to get them home! Ha! They'll hold them for us, of course.

We called the Good News garage. They are happy to take the truck as a donation! Even though they can't fix it up for a needy family, they can reuse the battery and it has an nice cap on the back that would sell nicely and get them some cash to make more repairs. :-) So as soon as we get the title to them, they'll go fetch the truck.

  11. Oh! And the bushes were on sale! 30% off! So even though they were the largest we'd found all day, they cost less than the smallest we'd seen elsewhere!
