  1. Howard's the Rose!!!

Gorgeous pick, listener, thank you so much for the ongoing effort!!

Took a "nap" last night at about eight. Woke just before midnight, decided to try to make it all the way through. Didn't.

Stevie got the bath last night. I need one, but not near as much as he did. And turned out that he needed two whole buckets (I use one). Had to leave him soaking wet in the tub while I heated the other. He'd gone from shock to whining to purring before I even got the second bucket warmed. And when I finally wrapped him in the towel and set him on the bathmat, he was joyous. It was actually easier than I'd imagined that it would be, so am grateful for that, and *he's* clearly very grateful to be squeaky clean again. Now feeling guilty that I didn't do it sooner. And WILL be doing it oftener.

Now that I'm checking for heat, *both* modems are obviously *warm* after a couple of hours. Combo likely of the WAY I use the computer, and the fact that I don't have A/C on a regular basis. Also found a couple of modem settings that are lower than the default, but which seem to help them by NOT pushing them as hard. Ironic, eh? A couple of guys out there in google-land actually drilled holes in their modem cases (voiding their warranties) to help theirs keep cooler! Remembering back to the early days of office computers in the late seventies, when the environment they lived in was wholly constructed for their "comfort" -- low static carpet, dust control, temp control. . . . Cp. to what we do now, which is virtually nada. . . .

Funny, I remember my learning curve with Frankenstein (my first computer), and being actually grateful he had SO many problems, because I learned HOW to take care of, and keep running, a very old, fragile, badly put together computer. Which I never would have had to learn if he'd been functioning well. That knowing was likely what kept Green Lantern running so long past his likely expiration date, lol! Also helping me now. . . .

    1. Lol! Yep, I do. First was Frankenstein, second was Green Lantern (*was* going to be Superman -- but the old Donvovan song -- Superman and Green Lantern, Baby, ain't got nothing on you. . . . would not STOP playing in my head, so discovered that computers, like animals, tell you their names. The one that just died was This Guy, and now, Clementine.

Cars, too. The Jeep was Shadowfax (waited thirty years for a vehicle to claim that name! Miss Reliable, my current 17 year old Escort is named Ludmilla the Beautiful. . . .

Given how you feel about computers, grin, I spect you've gotten their names about right. . . .

  3. Oh, also I can't open *anything* Yahoo. That includes my email. My son is a big deal in I.T., but he couldn't get it to work either. So I'm going to have to switch email accounts. Will let those of you who have my Yahoo email addy know when I have one somewhere else.

  4. Arggghhh, I want to HIT somebody! We get our internet and phone and TV through Time-Warner Cable and they've been totally FUBAR for days and days. Now I can barely get online. Local weather? Feggidaboud it, you don't need no stinking forecasts! The phone has been hinky for 3 or 4 days. Just a few minutes ago it dropped a call from my daughter in NY. You can't even complain about it. When you *can* get through by phone Time-Warner hides behind recorded messages. No humans here! Nothing to see. Move along.

I'm amazed the top of my head doesn't blow right off like a cartoon thermometer when it overheats.

    1. Susan, that is totally unacceptable of Time-Warner! How about writing a Letter to the Editor? No doubt others are likewise frustrated and with a little luck you'll set off a class action lawsuit.

  5. Fabulous massive thunderstorm ensuing overhead!!!

We lost power for about a minute, after the lights blinked a lot. Since it's still hot and humid here, it was a relief when the lights came back up immediately!

Littlest*Grand, who turns 3 on Thursday has had a fever of 104F all day. We get it down with Ibuprofen, but it comes right back. The poor little sweetie!
