This: no electric, heating with oven: Wind chill values as low as 7 below. . . . At least my lights and heat are back on, but man! Still bundled: about four layers, lol! This, too, will pass.
Maybe this will warm you up, puddle. Our windchill is supposed to be minus-21 tomorrow when the temps are about 9 or 10 for a high, with winds up to 23mph. Then tomorrow evening it's supposed to dip down to 0F with winds to 30mph.
Listener, are you sure you're in Jericho VT and not Moscow? The forecast there for Sunday is snow flurries, high 1, low -20. Monday, partly cloudy, high 0, low 11. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
By contrast, Sunday in London will be cloudy and rainy with a high of 39 and a lo of 36 while here in Springfield we'll be windy, high 32, low 16. Our overnight low tonight, that is Saturday-Sunday, is projected to be 18. That's more than cold enough for me. BRRRRRR
Getting it somewhat back together after yesterday. Amazing how much that kind of outrage, in *this weather* can do to ya. Nancy said this morning that it evidently snowballed, and more and more people went down. I found one of my oil lamps, the one with oil, but no globe. Just hunted down the other: globe, but no oil. Am reminded I need to get both oil and replacement chimney while next in town. As well as a bigger flashlight and and smaller one, and more candles.
The tank always leaks a lot when it's first filled, so I pulled several buckets before I put the laundry tub under the leak. There was ice on all three this morning. They're in the room between the kitchen and the bathroom. . . . Washing in the the bathroom did not freeze, nor did the water in the kitchen keeper, but kinda awesome to have such weather *in house*. . . .
Just so you know, I wasn't thrown out by Haloscan earlier when my avatar didn't post. It's just that i was posting from my iPhone and I haven't quite figured out how to make that part work yet. I'm far more adept on a computer.
So, yesterday Mah*Sweetie and I went to see the movie The Artist, as I mentioned last night. Overnight I got a wicked lower GI bug, but it lasted only 12 hours. My daughter-in-law (who I saw briefly on Friday) got the same thing Friday night...12 hours. Anyway, today I slept until about 1:20pm, then Mah*Sweetie and I went out to eat at Sarducci's in Montpelier (where once upon a time a Blogger Bash took place!!). The food was fabulous and it is definitely our new favourite restaurant!
Sooo glad to be feeling better. Looking forward to three hours of Downton Abbey tonight!! :-D
Must remember to repeat this tomorrow when Bill is back, but yours truly just completed and submitted her first ever Hugo nomination ballot. Only filled in three categories, but still I'm feeling just a bit special.
Been an arctic day, going to be another arctic night. And tomorrow, with luck a bit better, here. I'll take it, lol! Especially since that's all that's being offered.
Back from working the weekend at Salt Mine No. 2--not the brightest idea I ever had to pull a long shift with a bum knee, but not the worst either. A cane wasn't enough on Sunday; glad I took crutches too. Back home, a long hot bath, some aspirin and liniment, and I am much better--walking without a cane or a brace. So it's OK. A good night's sleep in our own bed should help even more.
Getting caught up with HEP--
Positive vibes at Renee! And everyone in her household too.
Hereabouts temperature down, some scattered very light rain. Almond trees just starting to bloom in some orchards.
Living where winters are a lot more wintry than here, I would seriously consider having a sheet metal airtight wood stove as a backup; but I might price a small cast iron potbelly stove before making a decision. No sense to getting a really expensive one for occasional backup.
puddle--I remember we would polish lamp chimneys and windows both with newspaper--but I suppose that with the new non-smudging soy-based inks they wouldn't work so well for that anymore.
Cat ~~ You are special. I didn't get any nominations done this year. And have never nominated in more than three categories. Nominating at all is special.
I was actually back around 4 p.m. this afternoon. But knew I would have a huge amount of stuff to catch up on, so wasn't at all sure I would get here before tomorrow. As it turns out, I'm catching up on HEP instead of catching up on e-mail.
I enjoyed the con, even though I spent much of the time sitting at a table trying to get people to presupport Phoenix's bid to hold the 2014 NASFIC (North American Science Fiction Convention -- held in years when Worldcon is overseas). But that gave me a chance to talk to a lot of people.
Puddle is first and very heroic if you ask me. I'm sending lots of toasty warm thoughts your way, my poet.
ReplyDeleteBTW I found myself signed out today, er, yesterday too. No idear what's going on.
Thanks! But at least it let you sign back in, lol! Going to try again on this thread, and see what happens.
ReplyDeleteWell, at last, only three more tries. I think google is the borg.
ReplyDeleteGoogle is not my favorite entity.

ReplyDeleteOne of the best inventions ever was the blanket!

ReplyDeleteIt's all Arctic air, you see.
ReplyDeleteAppreciated.
ReplyDeleteThat was for the mommy hug, last thread. Can't tell how these are threaded till you post, lol!
ReplyDeleteCheese, the threading doesn't even stay in place when you refresh. How haloscan has the nerve to charge money is beyond me.

Ready? I discovered today that Facebook thinks I live in "West Springfield, MA." LOL! I have no idear why, but Shhhh! Don't tell them!! 8-)
ReplyDeleteOh, I got it. We humans need to remain smarter than our devices. ;)
ReplyDeleteI've gotta send you more candles, I see!
ReplyDeleteI wish you did, listener. Then I might get to see you sometimes.

Yes. In winter, Muoscovites east ice cream to keep warm. (I kid you not -- the ice cream is warmer than the air.)
ReplyDelete♥
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bill!
ReplyDeleteHow was the con?
Hi Alan, glad the knee is more or less on the mend.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the con, even though I spent much of the time sitting at a table trying to get people to presupport Phoenix's bid to hold the 2014 NASFIC (North American Science Fiction Convention -- held in years when Worldcon is overseas). ReplyDeleteYeah, we take what comes and we do what we can with it. :-) That's maturity for ya. ;-)
