Snow Scene without Flash

  1. Howard's MY guy. How's about youse?

Wind chill this morning: 11ยบ! Skiff of snow, except the bridge, where the river is sheeting gently over. Wind advisory all day today: branches hitting the roof make it sound like war out there (and in here).

  2. Last night: (from facebook)

Beau was out in front when the rain started. So instead of staying ON the porch, ran down the stairs, and jumped over the "no dogs" barrier, and got on the lumber UNDER the porch. Leaving mama to stand in the drip line and try to untangle his cable, and failing that crawl under the porch from the end, unhook him and lead his joyous self into the house, and go back out and under to untangle the cable and bring it back to the door. Good thang I *lurv* that boy, is all's I can say.

My current name for him is Goobey. As in: Zuma Goobey? (Iz you ma Good Boy?) Nope, I don't think he understands a word of this conversation, but he *does* get the tone, very well, lol! And he IS ma Goobey. (We need to build the pie higher -- oops: build the barrier higher. . . . )

  3. I say build the barrier higher for Zuma Goobey and build the pie higher for his deserving Ma!
Sounds like da Boy needs a day on the hearth rug. wOOf!

  4. Just saw this:

Good news!! For those of you living in PA, MD, NJ, NY, OH, VA or WV, American Flatbread can now be found in Giant Carlisle.

Be sure to try their Cheese & Herb flatbread! It's fabulous!!
So, what is a "Giant Carlisle"?

  6. Hadn't heard the "Carlisle" ~~ But in the DC area, Giant (which appears to be the same) was always my store of choice. There was/is an almost undefinable sense of paying attention to you, that I've found in few chains. Kind of found the same/similar "ambiance" at Harris Teeter, whilst Edwin was in Greensboro. Neither of them the lowest prices in town, but a good range, many bargains, and huge choice. Take either of them over Safeway, Food Lion, or Krogers. Never had the pleasure of checking out a Winn Dixie, lol!

At any rate, whatever corner of WV Giant is in, it's not this one. Wish it were. I have access, here, only to a Great Value. Which is dismal. Things they can't find the heart to stock on a regular basis: avocados, bagels, lox, corned beef (other than the canned stuffed from Argentina).

  7. Oops. Take that back. No corned beef at the deli counter, but they do have whole, cook it yourself, corned beeves in the meat section. Some times. But never any pastrami, anywhere.

  9. We've dipped just below 30F now, and the snow has been falling fast and furious since 12:30pm. Mah*Sweetie and I just went out and shoveled the space in front of the garage and set the second vehicle there. Now the plow guy can plow straight down the driveway. It's the heaviest, wettest snow I've ever seen. The rains soaked down through what bit of snow we already had, then this wet stuff fell on top of that. I sure wouldn't want to use a snow blower on it.

Looks like we have 2.6" of new snow so far, a total of 4" in general, and some areas where the snow drifted (prior to today) it's about 6". I had to measure the snow on top of the car to be certain of today's new snow amount. LOL!

I'm thinking that when this freezes over it's going to freeze solid like a block of ice...roads too. It is pretty, but otherwise not to be envied. In fact, I'm a bit concerned about what happens when the wind picks up to 40mph.

Off to get the washer, dryer and dishwasher running...just incase.

  10. LOL

Of course, it's because he's a boy. A girl would have been much more sensible.

  11. Come the day he's interested in the hearth rug, *I* shall be the one rejoicing!

  12. I'd agree wit' ya, but my memories of Hannah will have to fade more before I can do so. . . . (I have no pictures except in my mind, but she used to climb up a six foot lumber fence and run along the top. . . . )

  13. Wholly uncivilized.

Mom always liked Giant. They aren't around here though. We use Stop & Shop and a local market, Big Y, which sounds to me like it thinks it's a ranch. But it's a good food store and a good corporate citizen. They're in southern Connecticut as well as western Massachusetts and they underwrite both WGBY and Connecticut Public Television.

  14. listener, sorry this took so long. Your email came during a noon nap (constructed to lure da boy to a "hearth rug"), and no mail came in until now, so hadn't checked. Mea culpa.

    Ally update at baby ~~

Good news! And I see that Firefox works on the candle page, although there is no obvious way to bookmark the page.

Snow showers off an on all day. Don't really know the total accumulation. Looks like maybe a bit over 3" to me, but Penny says it must be more. Current temp 21 deg, no wind.

  17. Bill, hit the bookmarks tab on the toolbar. Or right click on the page, select bookmark this page. Or hit the star in the url bar, far right. Which will turn gold to show you it's bookmarked.

Oh. I never saw that (almost too small to see). I was looking for the regular menu bar. But in Firefox, as in IE, the comments page doesn't show the menu bar and therefore any page you access from comments doesn't either.

  19. After Mah*Sweetie and I shoveled earlier it kept on snowing. I went out at 9pm and we had yet another 7.5", so 10" of new snow in all. I think I'm going to have to shovel my way IN to the Library in the morning.

  20. Clear bone marrow scans are wonderful! Clear, cool night here, very bright stars. Clear CT scans here too. Now to stretch my legs, take a nap, and off to Coalinga to work the weekend in the hospital. Fatter paycheck than usual because of working New Year's Day; that's nice. Also a nice refund check for most of the closing costs on our new mortgage. Starting to read Payment Deferred, and it seems very promising. Monday off for MLK Day, and we will then plant a new bare-root white peach tree that arrived yesterday. TTFN
