Want a turn?

I'm thinking of Dave Barry today. Can you guess why?

  1. And then, on October 8th...Howard Dean was First!

  2. And so will he always be, for me: still in love with Howard Dean.

Up for my wake break, lol! Been having to spend too much time in bed because of leg swelling (didn't happen until *after* I left the hospital.) Just dropped the hospital-prescribed-meds, and it's resolving itself. Slowly. Will add them back, one at a time till I find the culprit. Krezzy to give a sick person four new meds at one time.

  3. Bingo! Love these early morning study periods. . . .

Blood Pressure Medications, Calcium Channel Blockers --Magnesium may increase the likelihood of negative side effects (such as dizziness, nausea, and fluid retention) from calcium channel blockers (particularly nifedipine or Procardia) in pregnant women. Other calcium channel blockers include amlodipine (Norvasc), diltiazem (Cardizem), felodipine (Plendil), and verapamil (Calan).

Was taking felodipine in hospital, but no magnesium. [Two of the prescriptions were Norvasc and magnesium. . . . ] I was so dehydrated I suspect the fluid retention took some time to show up (I was about six and a half quarts low). I'd actually forgotten that the reason I list CCBs on my allergy list was fluid retention. (I always remember the loss of libido, but that didn't seem all that important, just then lol!) Need to update the list, and print it out. Trying to remember the whole thang during admission clearly didn't work well.

    Good night's work!

  4. Mentioning blood pressure medications reminds me that there is an important study going on in my area that aims to determine whether thte systolic blood pressure target should be 140 mmHg, as currently recommended, or 120. But when I saw my doctor Tuesday he measured my systolic blood pressure at 127. It's been pretty consistent around 125 for several years on my current medication (lisinopril/hydrochlorothiazide fixed-dose combination). That leads the doctor to more or less agree with my reservations about my personal participation: 127 is an awkward number for the study, since it's above 120 but far enough below 140 to make the results not as clear-cut as they might be. And since I've been doing so well on these meds, he's not anxious to change them just to bring my numbers closer to a study endpoint.

  5. Lucky dog! I'm allergic to both halves of that combo.

Kiddle and his father arrived a bit after noon. Much working/eating/talking/music going on.

And I need to go back up to get my feet up.

  6. That sure is krezzy! Call your pharmacist and discuss the symptom(s), or look up the drug side effects online for each. One of them may be more likely to cause leg swelling than the others, so you could hold off on that one to see if the other three (one a time) go okay. Just a thought.

  8. No, I hadn't encountered that article. But I also hadn't encountered the comments he is reacting against. There are advantages to no doing TV!

  9. I have just sent the following message to President Obama. Siimilar messages, without the explicit reference to this "do-nothing Congress," will follow to my Senators and Rep. Davis.

    Dear President Obama,

I understand that you are seeking repeal of the Bush-era tax cuts for people with household incomes above $250,000. In my opinion, this does not go far enough: I think ALL Bush-era tax cutes except the 10% tax bracket should be repealed. I agree that Warren Buffet should pay more taxes. But as someone with a 2010 household of $100,000, I think that I, too, should pay more.

The good news is that these tax cuts are scheduled to expire automatically at the end of next year. This "do-nothing Congress," in the immortal words of Harry Truman, doesn't even have to vote in order to achieve what the country needs.

  10. I'm not doing TV too. But it only takes a moment surfing the news sources to get the gist. I have learned to ignore most of the conversation these days until we're getting close to some major decision or election or snafu. But the courage of these protestors feels so much like the early Dean Campaign days (the verve) that it tugs at my heart and encourages my spirit.

  11. Thanks for sending that, Bill. I only wish they could be repealed at the end of THIS year. But one mustn't be greedy. ;-)

  12. Hi guys.

Sounds like you have a good, or at least a cautious doctor, Bill.

Puddle, hope you get the swelling under control soon.

  13. Alan, got my CD label scanned. Haven't tried to play the CD yet, but trust that you were right. I hope so anyway, Being inept, it took me a good number of tries before getting the image approximately perfect. Either it wasn't straight or part of the image was cut off owing to the CD not being situated correctly on the scanner bed. But, at last, it came out right.

  14. I actully think the end of next year is better timing. With the economy still stagnating, this is not the ideal time to raise taxes. Especially not on the middle class. But, as I mentioned in my messages to Congress, we can hope that the economy will be in better shape by the end of next year.
