First is that puddle should be OK. Hope her esophagus was just being ornery. It's probably old enough it has the right once in a while.
We picked grapes today--it's late in the year, but so is the whole harvest. Talking with the farmer and his wife we heard that the harvest is late because of a shortage of pickers. (You jerks in DC hear that?] The ones he had were good--we had to walk about eight rows to glean one large bucket. We got them washed and spread out on two sheets of plywood covered with heavy paper, but left them inside because it was near sundown when we finished. Tomorrow (Monday) we will move them out into the sun; rain is expected Wednesday. The weather was cooler than it often has been when we picked grapes--only the mid-80"s, with a nice breeze. Not bad at all; but we are starting to hear from some grape-picking muscles that haven't spoken to us for some time...
The farmer had another vineyard of fancy Japanese-style table grapes (thick inedible skin and large seed, dark purple and very sweet) that weren't uniform enough to suit the market because of the cool spring weather, so it doesn't even pay to pick them. Miyoko got some last week, and we got some more today, plenty to share with people who will enjoy them. What a waste--tons of grapes just left to rot on the vine.
Now to watch a movie or two; Charlie Chaplin's "The Circus" and maybe "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World." (I can remember seeing it at the Cinerama in San Francisco with my family when I was a kid.) For youse as is too young to remember, here's the scoop on Cinerama: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinerama
Home! And it's finally warmed up. So the storming worked Cat! Was sorry about the loss of your friend. Hurts, I know.
The flower arrangement is absolutely lovely -- gold, bronze purples, lovely silk autumn leaves, and freesia is one of my favorite flavors. And did my heart good, and warm when I either caught sight of it, or smelled it. listener's bear was very close to a life saver, and is the softest thing I've ever felt, plus possibly the cutest bear on the face of this earth.
Today I attended the New England Library Conference...held just a half hour from home!!
I got to attend workshops on "Adventures in Cartooning" (LOTS of fun!); "The Future is on Demand" (about patron-driven acquisitions); and "Stress Less with Mindfulness" (which was really interesting given the multi-tasking nature of our jobs!). Good stuff. You wouldn't believe how much librarians laugh out loud! :-D

ReplyDeleteBeau was expectedly very enthusiastic, but very gentle with me. Stevie about gave himself a hernia greeting me. Nice to be loved, indeed. . . .
ReplyDeleteAwwww, such a sweet Stevie! He was imagining you treed somewhere and was so relieved you'd escaped! Love is the best.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I've been disappointed in Obama's choice to try to work with the Republicans but that hardly makes him head Nazi!
ReplyDeleteGives a new meaning to the term "lunatic fringe," eh?
