  2. Survived my first week of teaching. Now I'm trying to complete the syllabus. Yeah, I probably should have had that finished before the first class meeting, but it's been that kind of week.

And just how many of us really get *everything* done on time? I know I don't!

Not to mention that we're not talking about getting thigs done "on time" but about getting them done when you'd ideally like to have them completed.

  6. Well, I finally got a *skeletal* version of a syllabus uploaded. Got as much done as I could while Son was out of the house (I don't currently have a working computer that can do word documents). He will be wanting his computer back now.

  7. Loaded a few more CDs into iTunes and cataloged them on RYM. Fortunately, they were all on RYM already, so I didn't have to enter them. There are a lot more to do, a *lot* a lot, but I'm feeling kind of listless, without the concentration for even such mindless busywork.

  8. Son is upstairs watching tv, and Demetrius just took Daughter to a birthday party, so I'm "getting away with" doing a little more work...

  9. Well, in the past when I've been behind in finishing a syllabus, I only needed to get the dates plugged in. This time around, I'm teaching an entirely new class, starting from scratch with the syllabus, and have almost *no* idea what the breakdown of grades is going to be. (How many points for quizzes, journals, etc., what you need to do to get a good grade in this class.) Students generally like to have an inkling about such things fairly early on.

  11. New water is partially hooked up. Been having a totally grand time doing the wash! Feels absolutely *wonderful* ~~ Tomorrow, if he can make the stock tank stop leaking, I'll have *in house* water again!! Been years. Birthday, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter and Mother's Day all wrapped into one.

I begin to see where you are coming from. None of the classes I ever taught had a formal syllabus in that snese. The only question was the relative weights of hourly, mid-term (if any), and final exams, and the relative weights of exams and lab reports. All of which was reasonably obvious even when I had not taught that particular course before. (I don't think I ever taught the same course twice after I left CCOM.)

  14. Thanks, Bill! It's wonderful! I remember living with Edwin in NYC, and they had these wonderful shiny silver dohickies, and if you turned the hot OR cold water spilled out this little pipe, RIGHT into your hands. I still kinda think that's what's heaven's like. . . .
