  1. Happy New Year, everybody!

    Howard Dean is first! *clink*

    To good friends

    To absent friends

To a better year for us all, for our country and for the world.

And, last but not least, to an end to the wars the US is currently engaged in

Just finished watching the new restoration of Fritz Lang's Metropolis, which has a good ending with promise for the future.
The half hour or so restored from the Buenos Aires print helps to make a lot more sense of the film. Only a very little bit is still missing, and one intertitle pretty much takes care of that. I thought they would use modern digital techniques to clean up the (badly damaged) Buenos Aires print sections, but they didn't. No big. Lots of drama, love story, promise for the future. Chase scenes, good battling against evil and misled, and lots of other good stuff. (The part where Death blows on his legbone flute and the statues of the Seven Deadly Sins come to life and go out into the city is excellent.)

Sleepless in Seattle is dandy too--will have to check our the others. Just about 2011 here. TTFN

  8. I just got home from a long woods walk. It was about 45 degrees with fog rising. Gorgeous. The woods definitely took a hit one month ago today ~ the day our big White Pine came down in our yard. I got some photos out there. With all the trees that were broken off and lain down, and the many that are listing badly, and the tree branches caught in other branches, overhanging paths, I kept thinking, "The woods are spooky, dark and deep"!

I agree with all the New Year's wishes.

Temps here have plunged back into the 20s, with lots of wind. It's overcase again after some sun near nid-day.

  11. Starting the new year with a new song. Still working on the melody. This one has a Country feel, which is new for yours truly.

    Forgotten Promises

Broken wishes, faded dreams, forgotten promises
Are all that's left of what used to be.
Broken wishes, faded dreams, forgotten promises
Abandoned remnants of the love you gave to me.

Not so long ago, it seems, you answered my dreams.
You touched my heart that was heavy with care.
With your kiss in the night, you said all would be right
And you promised you'd always be there.

Broken wishes, faded dreams, forgotten promises
Are all that's left of what used to be.
Broken wishes, faded dreams, forgotten promises
Abandoned remnants of the love you gave to me.

Someone new caught your eye, so you left me and I
Am more lonesome than ever before.
But though you're gone, it seems, you still haunt my dreams
And each tear makes me just miss you more.

Broken wishes, faded dreams, forgotten promises
Are all that's left of what used to be.
Broken wishes, faded dreams, forgotten promises
Abandoned remnants of the love you gave to me.

Not very cheery. Sorry about that.

Just popping in to wish y'all a happy you-know-what. (There really is no original way to say it, is there?) May 2011 bring only good new.

I spent an enjoyable first afternoon. I treated myself to a movie.

Anyway, I saw 'The King's Speech.' Strongly recommended.

  13. I just watched the trailer for "The King's Speech:"

    Looks dandy! Thanks, donna.

The river rose quite a bit today--they must be releasing quite a bit at the dam a few miles upstream. Checking Weather Underground I see that there is a flood watch advisory; ground saturated, some more rain on the way. After three years' drought this winter might be enough to fill the reservoirs and at least partly replenish the water table. Guess the wingers who have been blaming agricultural water shortages on those terrible Dems will have to stop complaining about the "Congress Created Dust Bowl" and instead complain about how the Dems have left their fields too muddy to work.

  16. Dad got the DVD player on my computer fixed, sort'a. It doesn't work in full screen mode, but it does work in, what would you call it? small or medium screen mode. It's bigger than YouTube view ports anyway. Just finished watching Brigadoon for the first time in donkeys years. One of my all time favs!
