Wow--just looked at the news while unlaxing a bit; looks like LOTS OF WINTER back east! We are expecting some more rain, then a bit of sun, then more rain through the week. Stay safe as well as snug!

And now to bed, later than I should. Busy day at the lab today (now yesterday, Monday), and Tuesday augers to be a doozy. Minions of the Law rounding up oodles of drunk and/or drugged drivers and sending us the blood tests. All hands on deck! All leaves are cancelled!
Well, by New England standards it wasn’t a big storm as snow totals go, just was a blizzard because of the wind. Family in Maine got 10” of snow but the wind scoured the ground to grass in some areas and left 2-3 ft drifts in other places. Friends in Boston got about 16”. Up here we got 4”! Ha! For once we were on the periphery! But we already had 8” left of the 3 feet of snow we’ve had this season, so we still have about a foot of snow on the ground.
Two of our kiddos and their families were on the road during the storm, but had good snow tires and sometimes drove behind plows and all made it through just fine. We’re all fine and accounted for. :-)
Now, that 6" of snow in Raleigh on Christmas Day WAS impressive!! The last time they had snow for Christmas was a dusting in 1947!
Yes, it makes sense to produce goods near where they will be sold rather than shipping them halfway around the world. China is buying earth-movers, so Caterpillar is making them in China.
As you've probably heard, China's economic boom has produced serious worries about inflation. As a result, the government is clamping down hard on lending and interest rates. And is expected to accellerate the rise of the reminbi against the dollar. That will make Chinese goods more expensive for Americans. Which will not only mean more Chinese-made goods will stay in China to be bought by Chinese consumers but will encourage US production of goods for the US market. Should have at least a small positive effect on the US job market.
Awh! Snugly kitties are first.
ReplyDeleteSo's that Howard Dean fella.
As puddle would say: "Troo dat!"
ReplyDeleteLol! If I took a picture of Stevie seeking heat, it'd be in front of my space heater. . .

Thanks, Alan. You're right, I forgot to follow and bookmark the link the first time around. What a treasure trove!
ReplyDeleteI sure hope so. Not to mention it may make "Made in America" a somewhat more common phrase once again.
