Wind Damage

I so see parallels with what's going on in DC. What sort of damage will come when big weak trees meet up with strong ill winds?

  1. Nobody here yet? Except me and HD1?

Thanks for the positive strokes, listener. I have this quaint idea that justice should not only be for the wealthy. I work on a sliding scale, from pro bono for the occasional individual, and sliding right up to the top (well, my top) for insurance companies. I would also rather have three jobs at one third what others charge than none for top dollar. Another quaint idea, eh?

  2. Well, we're getting our snow. Been at it for five or six hours, with five or six more to go. Got about two inches right now, so if it stays steady at this rate, we just might get the predicted five. Very very pretty so long as I needn't go anywhere, and I needn't, so just going to enjoy the show.

  3. Just got a "vintage" (25 year old) artist's "reproduction" of a German feather tree. (Ebay.) She had me at "nest with three blue eggs" or maybe, "hot air balloon" or maybe, "old world mercury glass Santa." This is all extremely tiny you understand. Whole tree with base is 13". . . . Happy camper here.

Almost twenty years ago, my sister made me a set of tiny toys in a gorgeous collaged and gilted red box. The box is so pretty it stays out year round. Last year I got to thinking they needed a tree, about their size. . . And since I finished my Christmas shopping so early. . . .

  4. Well, I had the new facebook profile for about 10 minutes. No big status at the top. A bunch of irrelevant info about my life there (which I'll strip out rather than have it *there*). The first photo in the photo stream isn't mine, nor am I tagged in it, and I don't even know any of the people. Wonder where MY stuff is showing up? My quote, which I LOVE was gone. Boy what a buncha schlimazels. . . . .

  5. It then just disappeared. Hope it stays gone *forever*. . . . One of the things I adore about google/blogspot, it that it's ALL your choice (well pretty much).

  7. Oh, well, then you are indeed a mensch. :-)

I was taking it in context and it sounded like you felt a little sheepish. Nice to see you felt good within even on the stand. Rock on, Alan!

  8. From the inbox:

(Note: I didn't read this when it came in on the Eleventh, and apologize for my resultant tardiness in posting. Still, it's good to know the idiots in the Senate can do *something*...sometimes.)

    Fellow Federationists:

I am pleased to write to you this evening to let you know that, thanks to your hard work, the Senate passed S. 841, the Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Act, late last evening.

As you know from previous legislative alerts, the Motor Vehicle Safety Act, S. 3302, was not allowed to move forward due to a couple of senators placing holds on the bill. It was decided that the Senate would take the noncontroversial pieces of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act and attempt to pass them as standalone bills. Our Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Act was one of these pieces, and it was passed by unanimous consent. S. 841 will now move to the House for consideration.

I am asking that you contact your member of the House of Representatives and urge them to pass S. 841 as received from the Senate on the suspension calendar. You may be connected to your member of the House by calling the Capitol switchboard toll free at (866) 727-4894. We are one step closer to completing our work on this important issue, and I urge you all to make one last push to finish the job.

Thank you very much for your dedication on the Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Act. I will update you with new information on House action when it is available.

  9. Regarding today's photo, that's not an SUV, that's the back end of Hubby's pickup truck.
The tree that fell was HUGE.

  11. Puddle, Sis also had the new profile, which she hates, for a while today. AFAIK all is back to normal now. I couldn't get in at all for about an hour this afternoon. But, when I did, all seemed to be in order. They were down for a time, apparently, and generally having major probs. But, like I said, it all seems to be back to normal now.

  12. What happened to the birds and critters that lived in it?

  14. Well, it's not the time of year for birds to nest, so that's good. We're not sure whether anyone was living in it, but it fell slowly enough for any creature to scurry or fly out of harm's way. No "remains" of that sort were discovered, at least.
