Bill, I agree about the so called icons. Pure clutter. And it's so hard to clean it all up and get back to a display you have any hope of making sense of, much less reading.
I've been engaging in my favorite passtime, record buying. For some reason that totally escapes me, I never got "Wake Me Up Before You Gogo" or "Last Christmas" by Wham! This serious oversight has now been rectified. I don't suppose anyone here even remembers Wham!, but I was quite taken with them at the time, and find myself playing these songs on YouTube with some regularity. I was just listening to "Last Christmas," again, when it occurred to me that it was probably still possible to buy the singles. And, thanks to amazon.co.uk, I have now done so. Of course, they won't arrive till after Christmas, but that's OK.
Last night I bought a few CD's, including Engelbert's latest, "Released" just out last month. Really looking forward to that one. But I need to go back and look for an album that Doris Day made with Andre Previn in 1962. From the song I heard, "Close Your Eyes," it's dynimite. You know, Doris Day is one of the most underrated singers, and actresses, of our time. I used not to pay much attention to her either but, as with John Wayne, I've come to appreciate her since my mid thirties or so.
I spent last night "feverishly" or "excitedly" trolling for tiny antique or "vintage" ornaments. Made to go on tiny feather trees. Or tiny feather tree knockoffs, lol! (Alas, "vintage" now means half my age. . . ) Found a wonderful place that sells figural clay beads from Peru that could easily be strung with wire for a tiny tree. And really cheap. Trying to find ones with material that actually might have been used 100 years ago, so no plastic or resin. Also found some actual antiques that are still reasonably priced and not in too bad of shape. Also thinking with each view how it could be "aged" to take off that new-new-new edge. Lotta fun. Fell into bed about 10 this morning, absolutely exhausted and slept very well.
Sort of busy with mostly non-urgent things. Went through some recent e-mail and read the latest Public Interest Report from the Federation of American Scientists. Now I'm going through the stuff in my "financial to-do" box. I know all the bills there have been automatically paid, of course, but I need to get them entered in Quicken to see exactly how much i have left in the bank.
Puddle! 10:00 a.m.?????? Holy smokes!!! I just bet you were exhaustified!!! Now, *that* is one stunt I've never yet pulled. YIKES! My head aches just thinking about it.

How's your weather? They're talking about ten to fifteen feet of snow in the mountains of California by the middle of next week. Alan lives in the Central Valley,, right? So, he won't be in danger of avalanches and mudslides and such, will he?
Donner's Pass can get twenty, thirty, forty feet easily. They don't even plow there: they excavate: scrape it out, and carry it elsewhere. One February, I stopped at the rest stop there, and the building was under twenty or so feet of snow. The different snowfalls looked like a geographic history at the edge of the parking lot, which was clear. Mind you, none of this effects the flatlanders on either side, lol!
Yes, a good Saturday. Financial stuff is done. Feel free to relax and read the rest of the night. What's on tap for tomorrow? Need to get my christmas cards done. And should do the IRS information return for the Disability Pride Parade while I have free time, although it's not due until the end of next month. Then it looks like I'll be at leisure until the researchers get us the final data for the paper we're writing.
Weather here is clear but cold (currently 17 deg, heading down to 10) and windy. Still an inch or so of snow in the ground from a week ago. We're some ways form the record of nearly 30 days of below-freezing temps, but I'd be happy to see it warm up.
Howard is numero uno!

Everybody must be busy today.

And I'm back from buying not one, but two Doris Day CD's. If that doesn't shout "middle aged," nothing does. *sigh* Oh well. What can ya do?

ReplyDeleteHi Bill. Sounds like a good Saturday.

ReplyDeleteExhaustified just about covers it, lol! In the olden days (of Edwin) I could go 36 to 48 hours. . . I'm slowing down.
ReplyDeleteAnd in honor of Rick (and the President), who had the same grand many grands daddy on da boat, Happy Mayflower Day! Landed today in 1620!
