Do you know, Cat, until you changed your Gravatar I hadn't even noticed that my name featured a blank photo?! Maybe that says I'm not overly self-focused? :-D
I know my picture is blank. I can't really see using an arbitrary icon -- granted that seems to be the norm nowdays -- and I don't assume I'm handsome enough everyone wants to look at my phiz every day.
S. 841, the Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Act, was just passed by the House of Representatives, and will now go to the president to be signed into law.
I want to thank you all for your hard work over the past three years to protect the right to independent and safe travel for the blind of our country. My final ask on this legislation is that we take a moment to contact the offices of our sponsorsRepresentative Towns (202-225-5936) and Representative Stearns (202-225-5744), and Senator Kerry (202-224-2742)and thank them for their efforts to get this legislation done.
Below is a list of all cosponsors by state, so affiliates can make appropriate calls to members of their delegation that supported this legislation. You may be connected to any member of Congress by calling the Capitol switchboard toll free at (866) 727-4894. I will alert you all when I learn of the president’s expected signing of this legislation.
Thank you all again for your outstanding effort to change what it means to be blind.

Puddle, I don't know how listener does it, but I'll try to explain what I did.
You know how your gravatar appears in the upper lefthand corner of the edit box where you write your comment? Click on the grav there. You see a list of types of accounts you can use, like Blogger. At the bottom of the list for me is an edit box containing the e-mail address associated with my grav.
I logged into my gravatar.com account and selected the address and associated grav I wanted. Then, here, I changed the e-mail address in the edit box on that list. That's all. Hope I explained clearly.
Got a lot done today. Warmer than expected, as was last night: I kept waking up sweating and throwing off all the covers till I cooled down. And sure enough, there were icicles this morning.
Arbitrary? Well, I Choose photos that I have taken myself and have meaning for me. The snowman is my favourite Christmas ornament; it is hand-blown glass and we purchased it the Christmas we went to Cape Cod. (1999, I think it was.) The photo of me that I use was taken by the brother-in-law of the groom while hubby and I were happily dancing. The irony is that we were the photographers for the wedding! Ha! But we were also friends of the couple and gave them all the photos as a present.
Bill, a gravatar image may seem arbitrary to an observer, but it generally has some meaning to the person who chose it.
This Christmas wreath has no deep, personal significance for me, but it is festive and of the Christmas season. Most of my gravatars - and I have quite a few - are simply images that struck my fancy for one reason or another. But, for instance, the kitty photos I often use definitely have personal significance. It just depends on how one wants to express oneself. That's what a gravatar is, a minor form of self expression. But, of course, one can always exercise the right not to express oneself.
Or how one expresses oneself. Because I am a word person, it's hard to imagine an image that would speak to my condition. (BTW, have I mentioned how much I hate all those icons Gates and Jobs mess things up with? Pure space wasters!)

ReplyDeleteCat...I answered your query at the end of last thread. :-)

Okay, you two. HOW do you manage to sign in on an account using gravatar? Only thing I can get is my blogger account which takes the pic from my blog.

listener, I'm relieved to hear that there were no critter casualties from the tree fall. That's one mountain of a tree! I bet it left a *big* hole!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! Velly much!! xox

ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I did. But it took a bit to figure it out!
ReplyDeleteAh, you'll see on Sunday. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAmazingly, I slept 8 hours last night. Ahhhhhhh.
ReplyDeleteI hope I can do that again tonight.

ReplyDeleteYou're welcome.
ReplyDeleteOh, it took me a while too. But, we got there in the end, which is the main thing.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can!
ReplyDeleteWell, I changed at gravatar, but it hasn't changed here for me, yet.
ReplyDeleteThere we go!!
