Waiting in the wings...

  1. Howard Dean is FIRST

and the bear that was just in our yard is the FIRST bear of the season
and the FIRST bear we've had here in April...any April!

This was, I think, a smaller bear than the one we had last August,
and a less bold bear, so I suspect a female.
(I don't say this for any other reason than a good friend's years of bear observation.)

Unfortunately, Hubby hadn't yet had chance to put up the upstairs level holder for the bird feeder.
It was still down on the pole. Now the pole is bent over and I think that feeder's a goner.
We'll know come daylight. Stay tuned.

  2. Sorry about your feeder, listener. I think I had a bear here, once. (heavy garbage can hauled from the back, but "they" didn't manage to get the lid off" ~~) We do have bears in the neighborhood, and the hunters often find bear scat at their deer feeding stations.

Gorgeous day here, so far ~~ blue and sunny, very little wind. Right around 50ยบ ~~ kinda like April, in fact, lol!

I'm glad we don't have bear in Chicagoland. Deer -- far too many. Coyote --- occasionally. Cougar -- very rare, probably wander in from South Dakota, but have been seen. Bear -- no.

Beautiful sunny day here as well. Low last night around freezing, but now up to 55.

  4. A black bear is an awesome creature.
Looking out on one in your back yard in the dark is like looking out at a black hole,
as the black of the bear has no shine or reflection.
That dense black has such a strong effect on the senses and the soul.
I am grateful to have seen a living koan.

I believe others have mentioned what a headache setting up a new computer can be. Right now I'm hassling with getting Adobe Acrobat Pro and EndNote, both essential and expensive pieces of business-related softwar, installed on the new computer without having to buy them all over again. Some of the other software hasn't gone smoothly either, but that jsut takes a bit of time.

On a more positive note, Penny just bought a new freezer and an air conditioner for my office at 30% off. The state's 15% ARRA rebate ran out after 11 hours, but Sears continued that discount out of their own pocket as well as the 15% they were already offering themselves. And next week Penny will go back and buy a new cookstove at 30% off. (All these appliances are Energy Star, of course.)

  9. Just got an email from him ~~ he's in some pain, but the operation went nicely, and without complications (laparoscopic) (just realized that word has "paroscope" in it, lol!). He's got percocet, but still some pain. I'm sending him good sleeping vibes.

  10. That is good news, puddle!! Laparoscopic is GOOD and should make for a much faster and cleaner healing. SO glad you got word before sleeping. I'm sending good sleep vibes for both of you...! ♥♥

  11. Don't envy you the computer stuff -- I'm looking at a reformatting pretty soon. . . . too many programs are basically inoperative now, but yikes.

Got a new stove for my birthday, but I *wouldn't* mind another freezer. . . . 30% is not a bad discount, either. Wise wife you have there.

  12. It's pretty aggravating how Ally and her Mom were treated today.
It means so much to go to her candle page and find your faithfully lit candles.

  15. I believe we'll both use them right up! Thank you, and returning the favor, friend.

  16. Passing by... and then to bed at a not too unreasonable time.

Here's hoping that the patient advocate has a good effect; things are bound to get a bit out of kilter once in a while.

Tuesday thread won't open for me at the moment.

Yes indeed, laparoscopic surgery is pretty amazing. Not only faster recovery times and less pain, but because of the magnification the surgeons can do much more precise work than with conventional open surgery. Today/tomorrow (4/20) marks a year since I had my primary surgery, and aside from being out of shape due to lack of exercise, I am doing fine.

I had a very nice thank-you letter from the young attorney (it was his first case and his boss was sitting in) for whom I testified in an arbitration case (inappropriate dismissal of a truck driver) this past Friday.
