Got a purty day goin' on here. Warmish and 60ยบ with just a bit o' wind. Rain tomorrow.
Number one kiddle just got laid off (though he said "fired") ~~ his facility just let go of about 15% of its work force. He doesn't actually seem too worried, but this is a kid who keeps stuff in, so *I* am worried. . . . He and his wife are both physicists, so trying to find an area that makes room for a double physicist job situation ain't that easy. . . .
When I was in China, and the party dudes were harassing my hunny's family as well as threatening to send me home and him to Tibet, I remember thinking that hell was not a place they sent *you* to suffer, rather a place where they sent someone *you loved* to suffer. . . .
Just found this on last night's thread: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alan in CA Passing by... and then to bed at a not too unreasonable time.
Here's hoping that the patient advocate has a good effect; things are bound to get a bit out of kilter once in a while.
Tuesday thread won't open for me at the moment.
Yes indeed, laparoscopic surgery is pretty amazing. Not only faster recovery times and less pain, but because of the magnification the surgeons can do much more precise work than with conventional open surgery. Today/tomorrow (4/20) marks a year since I had my primary surgery, and aside from being out of shape due to lack of exercise, I am doing fine.
I had a very nice thank-you letter from the young attorney (it was his first case and his boss was sitting in) for whom I testified in an arbitration case (inappropriate dismissal of a truck driver) this past Friday.
... but I *did* get the new book I was after, so the trip wasn't a total loss. Since I had some extra time I ran over and rejoined Weight Watchers. It's close enough to walk to, only about a mile or so.
I have to do *something*. I gain 40 lbs. after I quit smoking and I haven't been able to dislodge it. I've followed the Spark People free online program for 8 weeks, counting calories and exercising, but nada. Not one ounce lost. Definitely aiming to radically change that!
I've started to get semi-serious about dropping poinds. Mostly avoiding snacks when a meal is delayed, or bedtime snacks when it is early. And limiting desserts. I want to at least drop the 8 pounds I've put on since I went down to Indianapolis to campaign for Obama. Ideally I'd like to drop 23 pounds, to get down to the weight at which I got out of the army -- my best estimate of my personal ideal weight. But that would be a two-year job, and I'm not sure my motivation will carry trhough for that last 10 pounds or so.
Got up early this morning and started Spring cleaning. Phase One: Cleared out the closet in the Guest Room. Phase Two (tomorrow) is to recreate my clothing corner in the Master Bedroom. After that I have the Office to childproof. Then we'll be well on our way to being prepared for the granddaughters to stay with us this weekend (with their parents).
Hubby repotted 5 plants today and we got the new bird feeder up and running. We take it in at night, so Ms. Bear doesn't pay a visit.
Gotta say it: Howie's da foistiest!!

Oh, I hear you, puddle! It's weird how it's easier for us as parents to endure the knocks in life, easier than watching our kids go through it.
ReplyDeleteI'm off to buy some gardening stuff and a new book.

Sigh. They didn't have enough of the border cobblestones I wanted. More coming in on May 3, so I noted that on my calendar.
ReplyDeleteMy flower beds out front look really ratty, but there's just not enough of me to go around for everything that needs to get done.
Still chipping away though.

Good luck with the weight loss!
