Good morning, all. Though you're probably all asleep. Tomorrow, this hour will be a little less strange. Don't forget to set your clocks. I've uploaded another video to Youtube. It's a CBS Sunday Morning segment set on St. Simons Island in which Tina Ansa explains why she moved here. I taped it back in 1996 and just converted the VHS to disk. Unlike tape, copying doesn't degrade the image on the disk. Anyway, Tina will show you where I live. Only the Post Office is no longer where it was. They've built a museum at the base of the Lighthouse. That's a picture of my friend Alyne with some of her sunflowers. There are a couple of videos of her on Youtube, too. Mostly, she paints at her kitchen table and achieves all kinds of depth as if by magic.
River woke me up this morning. Nothing, but nothing sounds like a river in flood stage. I managed to pretend I wasn't hearing it for a couple of hours, but finally, curiosity got the better of me, and I came down. My crick is running hard, wild and muddy. But I still have a road at the end of the bridge, and it's stopped raining for now. Still have a day and a half to run the flood warning out, though.
Daughter flew home from Switzerland to Boston yesterday. About 6 hours into the 8.5 hour flight the stewardess asked for anyone with medical training to come to the back. Daughter spent 10+ years as an EMT and EMT trainer (though hasn't done it for several years), so she went to the back, as did four doctors. A woman was having a serious heart attack and they needed folks to attend to her. The four doctors immediately began trading medical expertise to see who would be the doctor most qualified to help. The allergist, OB/GYN and surgeon all bowed to the transplant specialist. Meanwhile, though, Daughter was actually doing something! She had the stewardess get oxygen and the plane's excellent medical kit. Daughter then readied the doctor’s tools and (get ready for this) instructed the doctor on how to put in the IV, since he hadn’t done that in about 5 years. The doctor and she took care of the woman for 2 1/2 hours until they landed. Oh, and all of this was done through a volunteer interpreter, as the woman didn't speak English. There had been some talk of them putting down in Halifax, as that would be closer than Boston. But given that it would only save them 25 minutes and the woman’s family were in Boston, they flew into Boston as planned. Daughter got a phone number for the woman's family in Boston and called them to tell them the situation, then called them when they landed to make meeting up easy. The woman’s family were so grateful that they covered Daughter in hugs! After two weeks of grueling work in Switzerland, where people were generally not happy, Daughter must be beginning to wonder if she missed her calling. Ha! Gratitude is wonderful. And I am so proud of Daughter today. ♥
I see the same link twice. Did the HSH ever get their act together and add the word "allegedly"?? HOW DEEPLY I wish Charlie were out of that God-forsaken state.
Well, I have to get some sleep. We have to lose an hour of sleep time, and the three granddaughters are coming tomorrow! Ah bliss!! I can hardly wait!!
Then, most unfortunately, we have to attend another horrible, out-of-control neighbourhood meeting tomorrow, late afternoon, at which the Pres has a bad attitude and no concept of boundaries. After living here for 24 years and raising our brood here, I have such a desire to pack it in and move. Grrr.
Had a good conversation with my friend Pat today. Jack is doing okay, but they meet with the oncologist on Monday and have some decisions to make. Rough.
Ally and her Daddy head to NYC tomorrow. Mommy has to stay behind to work. I'll let you know when there's an update.
I heard (from a little bird) that HBDIII was 1st!!!
