If the weather page is right, starting tomorrow (Monday) a week of above freezing temps (night and day). Betcha some flooding: plenty of areas here still with 10 inches or so of snow left. And some rain predicted in that week. Definitely need to do a town trip on Monday.
Beautiful day today--yesterday was just slightly cool, and completely cloudy. We weeded a large flower bed in the back yard. Today sunny with scattered white clouds, 59 degrees at noon and possibly in the low sixties this afternoon. We will prune the tulip tree in the front yard and apply fertilizer for trees and roses. It looks like all the grafts I made to the peach tree in the back yard might take--but I can't be sure until their buds start to open. If they take that would be a first, and a nice one, for me.
*Gorgeous* day here today. Had my front door open for a good many hours this afternoon which hasn't happened for long. Also figured it was warm enough and late enough to remove the wrens' nest from over my door -- (despite a lot of remaining snow) lots of field is clear. Just didn't want them laying eggs in the dang thing. Bird poop on the door step just isn't all that attractive, yanno?
Took down a (previous year's) nest from the tulip tree as I was pruning it this afternoon. The outside was made of twigs, and the inside was made of a thick layer of a familiar brown fiber that I couldn't place. Miyoko recognized it--palm fiber! There are some palm trees in front of a house a few doors down the street.
I was reading the Guardian online and came across this article about a privately produced "prequel" to the Lord of the Rings trilogy--looks really good! And the story of how it was made sounds rather Deanian. I have downloaded it and will watch it this evening. ======================= Born of Hope – and a lot of charity

Gorgeous weather here today. Sunny and in mid fifties. Thought about opening the window, but refrained. Didn't want to get carried away with all the sunshine.
Spent a couple more unproductive hours this evening trying to cast the (now) interpolated tale in "The Lady of the Stars" into verse. Got nowhere. However, thanks to getting drawn off on a tangent, I now know where the stars originally came from in that universe. Rather lovely, actually. I suppose the knowledge will come in handy at some point, but it doesn't help just now.
Over the weekend I read The Window at the White Cat by Mary Roberts Reinhardt. Not bad. I really enjoyed the solution to the secondary mystery. Did you know that Reinhardt had two of the ten books on the first ever best sellers list? Can't remember just now. Think it was in 1910.
Same, same, lol! Howie's *always* the firstiest!

ReplyDeleteThat bubble gun reminds me of an old humorous song, a spoof of Lawrence Welk, in which his bubble machine gets out of control (among other things)...
ReplyDeleteHi guys!
ReplyDeleteJust a note: I've lost my phone line about five times this past hour. If I disappear, not to worry, and don't call Sheriff Chuck. . .

ReplyDeleteWe'll TRY to restrain ourselves.
ReplyDeleteBut it's been so long since I chatted with him that I may not be able to resist. LOL!

ReplyDeleteLOL! You and kimmy make up a goodly part of one of the best stories of my life. You know that, right?

Already *loved* the description of the star fountain, and holding one in one's hand. . . .
