  2. Your black plastic spatula could be slowly poisoning you, study says
Los Angeles Times: Go to your kitchen, grab your black spatula and throw it in the trash. Immediately.

That’s the alarming message from a new study published in the journal Chemosphere. Cooking with any plastic utensil has long been seen as worrisome because heat can cause chemicals in the plastic to migrate into the food you’re about to eat. But researchers are now saying products made from recycled black plastic contain even more toxic components. -- nordy

    1. No can do; some of our spatulas are stainless steel, others are wood. But thanks for the warning.

    2. Ours are metal or silicone, no black plastic...that would just melt anyway!

Had a white plastic spatula once, and it touched the burner and gave off such a smell never bought another.

  3. Why Trump’s ‘drill, baby, drill’ pledge may not actually lower US gas prices [Click] “Despite president-elect’s vow, energy companies focus on managing resources to be profitable, not pumping more oil.” Gee. At the same time food and housing prices go up.

  4. Guardian: US closes embassy in Kyiv after warning of ‘significant air attack’ [Click] “Warning comes as Biden agrees to supply anti-personnel landmines to Ukraine, days after lifting restrictions on use of long-range missiles.” Interesting that the US-made anti-personnel landmines automatically inactivate themselves after a while.

    1. Ukraine's intelligence agency accuses Russia of spreading fake information about impending large attack

Ukraine’s main directorate of intelligence has accused Russia of spreading misinformation that there would be a large-scale attack today in what it described as “a massive information-psychological attack”

Reuters quotes the agency statement saying “A message is being spread via messengers and social networks … about the threat of a ‘particularly massive’ missile and bomb strike on Ukrainian cities today. This message is a fake, it contains grammatical errors typical of Russian information and psychological operations.”

Earlier Italy, Spain and Greece followed the US in closing their Kyiv embassies over attack fears. The US embassy said it had received “specific information” of a potential significant air attack and would be closed.

The UK embassy in Kyiv remained open, while Germany’s embassy remained open in a limited capacity.</em.
