OOPS! SORRY TO BE LATE!

FRODO: I can’t do this, Sam. SAM: I know. It’s all wrong.
By rights we shouldn’t even be here.
But we are.
It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo.
The ones that really mattered.
Full of darkness
and danger they were.
And sometimes
you didn’t want to know the end.
Because how could the end be happy.
How could the world
go back to the way it was
when so much bad had happened.
But in the end,
it’s only a passing thing, this shadow.
Even darkness must pass.
A new day will come.
And when the sun shines
it will shine out the clearer.
Those were the stories
that stayed with you.
That meant something.
Even if you were too small
to understand why.
But I think, Mr. Frodo,
I do understand.
I know now.
Folk in those stories
had lots of chances
of turning back
only they didn’t.
Because they were
holding on to something.
FRODO: What are we holding on to, Sam?
SAM: That there’s some good
in this world, Mr. Frodo.
And it’s worth fighting for.

  1. Usually, I set up a dozen or so main posts at a time, and missed that we were running out of them!

    Should be better now.

  2. Alan, one of your posts about the US Embassy in Kiev says the embassy closed, while your second post says it stayed open. Apparently it was a chaotic day over there. I'll have to watch for clarification.

  3. Bomb cyclone, high winds wreak havoc in Western Washington.
Blown-down trees are hitting houses, roads, cars and people, causing at least two deaths and cutting off power to an estimates 500,000 people. Many are not expected so see power restored before Thanksgiving. The bomb cyclone, which looks like a hurricane from space, is causing hurricane-force winds which contribute to more downed trees. The mix of downed trees and live power lines has rendered driving unsafe as many residents wait for crews to unblock the roads and restore power. I live in Seattle proper and had only a few flickering lights and no power loss. But the bomb cyclone is still there and a new front is expected Friday. -- nordy

Trump has refused to sign the official documents required by the 2022 Presidential Transition Act. Those documents mandate ethics commitments and require the incoming president to disclose private donations. They also limit those donations. Without the paperwork, Trump appointees cannot start the process of getting security clearances through the Federal Bureau of Investigation; the team says it is planning to do its own vetting of its candidates instead.
Claiming they have a mandate, Trump’s people have said they are launching “a hostile takeover” of the American government “on behalf of the American people.” But as voting numbers continue to come in, Trump’s majority has fallen below 50% of voters, meaning that more voters chose someone else than chose Trump on November 5. These results are far from being in “mandate” territory.
