The media want the election to be close in order to maintain news interest. It's hard to be sure, given the prior failutres of polls, but I'm inclined to think Harris is in good shape. If she can flip NC, she's in.
I should mention that one of the reasons I was so veyr reluctant to see Biden leave the race was that I thought it would be hard for Harris to establish herself in such s short period. Obviously I was wrong.
Guardian: Thousands of toxins from food packaging found in humans -- research More than 3,600 chemicals approved for food contact in packaging, kitchenware or food processing equipment have been found in humans, new peer-reviewed research has found, highlighting a little-regulated exposure risk to toxic substances.
The chemicals have been found in human blood, hair or breast milk. Among them are compounds known to be highly toxic, like PFAS, bisphenol, metals, phthalates and volatile organic compounds. Many are linked to cancer, hormone disruption and other serious health issues. -- nordy
What set it off, I have no idea; but I had a really bad bout of vomiting starting early last night-- it seems to have completely emptied my GI tract, which I am trying to get back to something like normal. My wife and daughter ate the same food I did, and they are OK. Pepto-Bismol did no good--- quite the opposite, in fact. I tolerated a piece of french bread, but it sure tasted sour. Working on some unflavored rice now. -----Alan
The vomiting is over, my guts are griping me from time to time, and I must have lost a lot of water and electrolytes, which I have begun to replace. My sweetie is making an old fashioned Japanese dish for people who are sick, "ohjjiya." It is basically rice cooked with an excess of water to make it very soft plus a little flavoring. The word comes from Portuguese, and is a cognate of the Spanish "olla," or pot. Many of the old Portuguese borrow words in Japanese have been replaced by German, and more recently English. ------Alan
On the latest preview of "Shrinking Trump," Dr. John Gartner and Dr. Harry Segal delve into the latest polls and why they believe the election is not as close as the media wants to make it seem. [Click]
