"Marching Through Georgia" probably isn't a good idea for a campaign song this year, despite being very rousing. Maybe if we win decisively "Babylon Is Fallen" will bear consideration. -----Alan
Why your vet bill is so high Helaine Olen The Atlantic "As household pets have risen in status—from mere animals to bona fide family members—so, too, has owners’ willingness to spend money to ensure their well-being. Big-money investors have noticed. According to data provided to me by PitchBook, private equity poured $51.6 billion into the veterinary sector from 2017 to 2023, and another $9.3 billion in the first four months of this year, seemingly convinced that it had discovered a foolproof investment." -- nordy
In recent years the number of animal shelters and hospitals around here has decreased, as has the number of vet practices. And, yes, prices have gone up. One development that really angered me was when the Mass. ASPCA bought out the best animal hospital in Springfield and promptly closed it. So, I don't have the warm fuzzies for Mass. ASPCA either.
Thanks, Cat!! I'll check it out on Wednesday. Just returned from bringing our grand home to NH today. Got up early the last three days, with her visiting. So I need to hit the hay to be rested before working at the polls most of Tuesday. But that sure does sound interesting!!!
In Texas, dozens of pregnant women, some bleeding or in labor, are turned away from ERs despite federal law. (AP) Bleeding and in pain, Kyleigh Thurman didn’t know her doomed pregnancy could kill her.
Emergency room doctors at Ascension Seton Williamson in Texas handed her a pamphlet on miscarriage and told her to “let nature take its course” before discharging her without treatment for her ectopic pregnancy.
When the 25-year-old returned three days later, still bleeding, doctors finally agreed to give her an injection to end the pregnancy. It was too late. The fertilized egg growing on Thurman’s fallopian tube ruptured it, destroying part of her reproductive system.
That’s according to a complaint Thurman and the Center for Reproductive Rights filed last week asking the government to investigate whether the hospital violated federal law when staff failed to treat her initially in February 2023.
The Biden administration says hospitals must offer abortions when needed to save a woman’s life, despite state bans enacted after the Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to an abortion more than two years ago. Texas is challenging that guidance and, earlier this summer, the Supreme Court declined to resolve the issue. --nordy
There is no question that such patients will present at the ER. The malpractice insurers should jack up their rates in such states to cover the increased risk. -------Alan

"Hold The Fort, For We Are Coming" is a possibility; as memory serves me, it endures as a labor song in Jamaica.

The IWW Songbook should have some possible campaign songs.

It should be easy enough to fit some new words to the tune. Maybe someone already has!
