Let’s hope they come out in droves and halt the progress of the far right! And let’s hope that US voters take good notes!

    2. Le Pen, although distasteful and dangerous, is neither criminal per se nor senile, unlike Trump (who cannot even reliably make his way through a four-syllable word these days).

  4. Outrage after Biden administration reinstates ‘barbaric’ Trump-era hunting rules [Click] “Rules allow hunting practices that target bears and wolves, including pups or cubs, on federal land in Alaska.” No one is taking responsibility.

This makes no sense. I don’t see how allowing motorboats to ram caribou that are swimming leads to an increased caribou herd. The rest is just insane. I’ll ask PhD*Son about it. I know the Park Service is sometimes in his black list. His research in NC years ago gave the proof needed for the State of NC TO SUE TGE park Service for not protecting nesting Shorebirds during nesting season. As a result, they were required to cordon off nesting areas to protect them from ignorant humans who liked to drive their cars and ATVs on the beaches.

    2. Holy shit! And we're supposed to be rallying around Biden and his admin.? Thanks, Joe, for making the job of supporting you harder!

  5. "What we are talking about now is not a Grammy award contest for best singer. Biden is old. He's not as articulate as he once was. I wish he could jump up the steps on Air Force One. He can't. What we have got to focus on is policy."

  6. OK, here is some heavy-duty astronomical/mathematical stuff:

So where is Planet X, anyway? Some new (to me) speculation about its orbit [Click]

Some strange things happen when you follow Einstein’s math [Click] Black holes, white holes, parallel universes, oh my! (Probable improbabilities here and there.)

    1. I shall have to go back and re-read the article about Planet Eks because my brain is currently full of the Einsteinian stuff, but I recollect that current speculation is that Eks is pretty large, very distant, and its orbit (this is new to me) is at right angles to the plane of the other planets--- which latter idea is new and interesting to me.

    1. I dare say that the comparison to George The Third is not correct. Since the execution of Charles The First in 1649 it has been clear that no English monarch has been above the law.

    2. As an aside, there has been a question about the identity of the executioner who decapitated Charles I; he did not, as was customary, hold up the head of the deceased by its hair and and call out "Behold the traitor!" It has been suggested that was because he would have been recognized by his voice. Recently the remains of Charles have been inspected, and the opinion was that the decapitation was skillfully performed with a single blow in the correct place.

  9. French election results [Click] Le Pen loses, no party has a majority (which surprisingly has not previously happened in modern France) and Macron says he is unwilling to cooperate with France Unbowed, the leading leftist party.

(Who is reminded of the Canadian columnist who long ago observed that "We could have had the best of everything; the government of the British, the culture of the French, and the get-up and go of the Americans. Instead we have the culture of the Americans, the government of the French, and the get-up-and-go of the British.")
