He did both coats before I was able to join him. Perfect weather for it.

    1. I'm getting rather tired of this hype abouit dual emergence. There won't be more cicdas in any given place, just a broader area affected.

    2. Incidentally, I'm not hearing cicadas here, even though the emergence supposedly started a week ago.

    3. Yiw! That montage at the end of things he said about Ivanka is just gross! And he kept saying to Stormy that she reminded him of Ivanka before he had sex with her not entirely with her consent. YICK!

    2. Apparently some kind of tapeworm, which then died (and is still in there).

    1. 18M miles wide is a pretty big event horizon!

    2. I have no idea how large or small it might be, but I should expect it to pulsate.

    3. Eighteen miles seems to me rather small for a cosmic object like a black hole.

    4. 18M miles = 18 million miles

    5. Wait. I stand corrected. It's only 16 million miles. I must have heard it wrong the first time.

President Biden tells Erin Burnett of CNN that if Israel invades the city of Rafah the US will stop supplying Israel with artillery shells, bombs for fighter jets and other offensive weapons.

    1. That's about the size of it.

    2. My longstanding opinion of Biden has been that in foreign affairs he has been too far to the right for my tastes. But he has been OK on domestic affairs, which is what American voters typically seem to care about. Dems seem (rightly) to think they have California in the bag these days, so there is almost no sign of an impending election to be seen hereabouts. California House districts are somewhat less gerrymandered than they used to be, thanks to Gov. Schwartzenegger, but hereabouts they remain gerrymandered in favor of Republicans. It would be a novelty for me to actually have a Representative in the House.

    1. Well, l better get out and fix a sprinkler, put out the garbage, whack some weeds and groundcover. I have been unusually lazy today. I managed to walk a full two kilometers this morning with minimal discomfort.

  11. Went to VT*Grand's a cappella group concert tonight. They invited past members to join them for the evening! So the group size grew from 10 to 22, and without a rehearsal they joined certain songs and fit right in...even including some hand movements. Impressive. Especially given that some of the folks who joined them graduated back in 2006. FUN! Many of them wore the group tee shirt of their years. So that was fun too. This teacher (who looks like she's about age 25) has been teaching there for 26 years...and is amazing.

  12. Interesting. Today I received a very odd email saying:

    "Dear Democratic State Convention Delegate:

"Thank you for your leadership in the Democratic Party and for serving as a delegate to the State Convention on May 11! We look forward to standing with you as we celebrate the nomination of Senator Chris Murphy for re-election. Now, more than ever, our country needs leaders like Senator Murphy to continue to move us forward and fight against those who would do just the opposite.

"A second task before you at the State Convention will be to elect Connecticut’s two Democratic National Committee members. We reach out to you today in the hope that you will support our re-election. We are both active in our local, state, and national party efforts to elect Democrats and, especially this year, to turn the tide against those who would upend our democracy, take away a woman’s right to choose, and stand idle while our children are being killed by gun violence. There are so many more issues to address, both nationally and internationally, and President Biden has a long list of accomplishments that no other President has achieved. We are committed to making sure he is victorious in November.

"Below are two short bios of our work and we would be grateful for your support and honored to serve another term.

    "Best wishes,
    John Olsen Marti Carlson

"Marti Carlson served in the Office of State Comptroller for 27 years, first as Assistant Comptroller to Nancy Wyman and then Deputy Comptroller to Kevin Lembo. Her political contributions include serving on the management teams of multiple campaigns, including John Larson, Nancy Wyman, Kevin Lembo, Sean Scanlon, Stephanie Thomas, and Erick Russell. Marti was the statewide political director for Malloy/Wyman 2010, convention manager for Chris Murphy for Senate in 2012, and led Women for Murphy in 2012. She has been a member of the Guilford Democratic Town Committee since 1990 and served several terms as Chair. She is currently a member of the Democratic National Committee and has been a delegate to the 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020 National Conventions. Marti has managed every Guilford municipal and State Representative campaign since 1990. Marti has been a mentor to young Democratic candidates and political volunteers, as well as an advisor to Democratic Town Committee leaders across the state.

"John Olsen has been advocating on behalf of working families throughout his career, both in his leadership within the labor movement as well as the Democratic Party. John was a plumber and pipefitter in local 133 during which time he was elected president and later, business manager. He then was elected secretary-treasurer of the Greenwich and state building trades. John was elected president of the AFL-CIO IN 1988 and served as the president for 26 years. He currently serves as President Emeritus. During his tenure, John worked as a co-convener of the civil rights, immigration, climate and green jobs, and corporate accountability coalitions. As president of the AFL-CIO, he also joined with other healthcare advocates to sue insurance companies successfully securing 40 million dollars to be used for the citizens of Connecticut to expand their healthcare opportunities. John has served on countless Boards and Commissions, as well as serving as Chairman of the Connecticut State Democratic Party, DTC Chair in Greenwich, and as the Vice Chair of the Clinton DTC. John has been a vocal advocate for Connecticut during his service on the Democratic National Committee and has helped represent the state including his participation at the Eastern Regional Caucus meetings and DNC Labor Caucus. John is currently serving Governor Lamont as a member of Connecticut Innovations."

Given that I live in Vermont and haven't been a Democrat since the Dean Campaign days, I immediately suspected this to be a scam. So, I looked at the address the email came from...
