    1. It is the lead story on NHK News this morning.

    2. The MAGA-ite talking head on CNN this morning characterized the President's address and his delivery of it as divisive. Van Jones quashed that, but it's obviously the standing MAGA-ite position.

BTW I'm no longer going to dignify Trumpers as Republicans. Henry cCabet Lodge would not recognize that rabble as Republicans. Hell, Barry Goldwater wouldn't recognize them. Regardless of how much formal education individuals among them may have, as a whole they are ignorant, undignified, disrespectful of every aspect of this country including the constituents they claim to serve, and not a man jack of them would recognize a gentleman or lady if one sat in their lap! I'm going to call them what they are - well, at least the expurgated, shorthand version of what they are.

    3. The Freedom Agenda, the SOTU speech, and the Biden campaign [Click] Mike Donilon, Biden’s long-time political strategist, gives a rare interview.

  2. From WaPo via TPM: [Click] “The Navy quietly demoted Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) from rear admiral to captain in July 2022 after a Pentagon inspector general’s report on his misconduct while serving as Trump White House physician, the Washington Post first reported Thursday. Jackson has since continued to refer to himself as a rear admiral despite the reduction in rank.”

    1. Typical MAGA-ite, totally out of touch with reality.

  3. International Women's Day 2024: 12 iconic images of defiant women [Click] The thing that continues to strike me about the lead photo is that the three armored policemen’s body language seems to show they are AFRAID of the young woman in front of them.

    2. I strongly doubt that it could have been raised by selling his soul to the Devil at a crossroad at midnight. If it was, the Devil is going to be wroth when he inspects the goods.

    3. Come to think of it, at least some say that the Devil makes such transactions at parish boundaries.

    4. Well, here's an important clue...the CNN headline just above the news of DT posting bail was:

Viktor Orbán is taking his blueprint on dismantling democracy to Mar-a-Lago

I snickered when I noted that Orbán is wearing an orange tie.

    5. Via politicalwire.com:

New York Times: “With a Monday deadline looming, Mr. Trump secured the $91.6 million bond, which is higher than the $83.3 million judgment because the former president is also responsible for interest.”

“The bond is a promise from the company offering it to cover Mr. Trump’s judgment if he loses his appeal and fails to pay. In exchange, Mr. Trump must pay the company a fee and pledge collateral, including as much cash as possible.”

So he got the money from a bonding company; hocked his property.

    7. Meidas Touch video: Explanation of Trump’s bonding arrangement in EJC II case. [Click] No explanation of what properties Trump has pledged, but he has paid a non-refundable bonding fee, which normally would be about 10%, and if the bond should be forfeit, the bonding company seizes the pledged properties. (Typically bonding companies don't like to have their bonds secured with real estate.)

  5. Poor Things: The hidden meanings in Emma Stone's costumes [Click] Not the sort of thing that normally interests me, but this paragraph drew me in:
“Let's start at the end. When Bella, a woman who has arrived back at adulthood, concludes her character arc, she sits contentedly in the freshly unshackled world she has finally been able to craft for herself. It is a darkly utopian scene. She wants to be a doctor and is reading a medical text. Her abusive ex-husband has had the brain of a goat transplanted into his body, and he is grazing and occasionally bleating on the lawn.”

P.S.: I remain rather puzzled about how Frankenstein fits into this.

  6. I don't think Biden has anything to wince over in that remark...since it shows the rest of us that he is just as truly frustrated with Netanyahu as he seems. He's been working it all through diplomacy, which is woefully slow. But he sincerely wants the carnage to end. I was surprised by the use of the term "come to Jesus moment" with the leader of the Israelis. Still, Netanyahu may be a cultural Jew, but he is clearly not a person of faith, not one of the People of the Book.

    1. Seems to me that's hardly an insane number, given their circumstances. It's an awful lot to store and transport, I'll grant you that. But my guess is, they won't last long.
