  1. Well, I have changed my voter registration to Democratic; none of the other recognized parties in California have 2024 presidential primary candidates that appeal to me, and I generally approve of Mr. Biden.

  2. As for the people trying to take firearms through the TSA checkpoints, I do wonder if their political party preferences are atypical.

    1. There is a nice distinction between being "uninterested" and "disinterested" that may not be clear to people not experienced in the legal system. People are UNinterested if they pay no attention to a particular case, but they are DISinterested if they do not profit from a particular outcome of the case. Being UNinterested is not required of the various people (jurors, judge, prosecutors, experts, etc), but being DISinterested is required for the most part. Contingency fee-based services are permissible in some civil cases ("if we lose the case you owe us nothing, but if we win you owe us X% of the award), but not for officers of the court in criminal cases. I suppose that it might be permissible for the defense attorneys in a criminal case to work on a contingency basis, but I think it is rare. Attorneys are expected to do some pro bono (no charge) work, just as physicians used to be expected to do some work at the county hospital for free.

    2. Emendation of the contingency fee idea:
"if we lose the case you owe us nothing, but if we win you owe us X% of the award" should read "if we lose the case you owe us nothing, but if we win you owe us X% of what is collected of the award)

Noon here; the sun has just come out after a little overnight rain, and no rain is predicted until next Wednesday. So gardening can commence tomorrow.
