Alas, the time seems to have come to put one of our cats to sleep; he is off his food again, hiding, and suffering among other symptoms. He is one of the three abandoned by former neighbors several years ago. One, the obligate outdoor cat, passed away about three years ago, and the third is still OK. ----Alan
We buried him next to his sibling, "the cow cat" because of his black and white pattern. The cow cat was an outdoor cat, and his happy place was on the bluff behind our house, looking out at the river and the mountains beyond. Sidney, the one whom we just put to sleep, had the typical tuxedo pattern. A year and a half ago we took him to the veterinarian because he was not doing well; the veterinarian said he probably had about three months to live. The time finally came; he was having more bad periods, and closer together. He was suffering Now he is at rest and free of pain. Pets truly do become members of the family. ------Alan
Listener, I'm mightily puzzled and turning to you, as a native New Englander,as someone who might be able to straighten me out.
Looking at this painting: Frederic Edwin Church: Twilight, Mount Ktaadn. Now, when I google Mount Ktaadn, the only results that come up are for Mt. Katahdin . Similarly, substituting Katahdin in the painting title yields results for a different painting. What gives, do you have any idea? Is Ktaadn an old or alternative name for Katahdin ? Do you recognize the place in the picture as Mt. Katahdin ? Help, I think my head might explode I'm so confused!
Cat, I think that's Mount Katahdin, but painted from a different angle than the usual. Many show it as a long mountain with a plateau top. But from one end or the other it can look very different...as in the link you posted and this link as well: Katahdin
That's close enough to the figure I had in mind (175 megabucks). Thanks for the good news, Susan! After Rudy decides which steam grate he is going to make his new home, it should be adorned with a commemorative brass plaque and made a regular tour bus stop. IMO. ---Alan

DeleteYup! Thoreau also called it Ktaadn. I suspect that's the Native American spelling, which later got English-ized.
DeleteThoreau on Ktaadn
Thanks, Listener!

Too bad Giuliani hasn't got the money. But it's definitely a moral victory.
DeleteA ten percent commission on anything they find should attract plenty of researchers to whatever Rudy has, either in cash or hidden away.
