We got an early start to the holiday weekend by taking Eldest and VT*Grand sailing along with a friend of Grand's. It went really well, then we ate out (at a restaurant under an umbrella), then went for ice cream cones! Great fun...and all while the Air Quality Index was about 66 (yellow). Now it's gone up to 106 (orange), and may be higher tomorrow. So glad we went out while we could! We'll see what the smoke dictates the rest of the weekend, but we're hoping to get some yardwork done and be on our boat for the fireworks. 🤞
The next two days the high temperature is supposed to reach 110F; a little calculation discloses that is a bit over 43 degrees Centigrade; much cooler! ----Alan P.S.: We have just turned on the air conditioner for the first time this year.
Definitely a different climate from here. We've had 80's with humidity between 59 and 81%. Dew point 63. Not too bad since the humidity is lowest when the temp is highest. But with the smoke hanging in the air the air felt "thick."
I see that the July temperature prediction [Click] is for cooler than normal temperatures here; that will make today’s predicted 110F seem that much cooler! Today is laundry day and we will be reducing our bed to one blanket. No breeze at the moment and 80F in the house (7:30 AM). People sketching at an ice cream parlor this afternoon. ——Alan
We have heat pumps to keep our house cool and we're already down to one blanket. Makes me wonder if I'd be good at tolerating dry heat, given how much high humidity I tolerate.
The Euclid Telescope has been successfully launched, although the journalists seem to have difficulty describing its orbital destination. Launch was delayed by a year because of Russia's attack on Ukraine, which brought about a change of launch vehicle from Roscosmos to SpaceX. -----Alan
My reference wasn't clear. The mailbox was OK--only had to touch it for a moment. The air combined with strong direct sunlight was awful darn hot; I quickly retreated into the shade. One more day of 110F, then 105, then 101, them 100, then way on down into the 90's. One has to adjust to the summer weather; it gets easier. I am sitting here enjoying our air conditioning. (It is zoned, so we don't have to cool the entire house when only using part of it.) ----Alan
LOL. I knew you meant the DAY was that hot...but imagined a metal mailbox on a hot day... You know...along the lines of not playing Jacks on a hot sidewalk. 😳
puddle is first because it's JUL-Y. 😉

ReplyDeleteI saw a satellite photo of the smoke extending all the way to Europe.

AQI hit 155 (red) for most of the day. Then rain began and now it's down to 141 (orange). Might make it down to 90 (yellow) tomorrow. We'll see.

Just now (noon:30) stepped outside (on the sunny side of our house) to check the mailbox, and it is hotter than a two-dollar pistol.

Yikes!!
DeleteHow can you even touch the mailbox? Do you wear gloves?
