  1. Marks twenty years of computer use for me. My ex gifted me with his old computer when he got a new one. Named honestly Frankenstein, I learned so much more from the bugs than what worked.Took me a month to come to hate Bill Gates. Two months to find firefox and start using it, it was still in beta. . . . Discovered the Howard Dean blog by my birthday. Been a wonderful 20 years kids, thank!!!

    1. Yes, it is the twentieth year of Hannah Blog, as well. Has not missed a day. Now there is also art, poetry and a novel available. Anne Ward Masterson has just been published and is for sale on Amazon.

    1. I'm so grateful we all found each other on the Dean blog! Howard got things started, my Eldest strongly supported Dean and lobbied the rest of the Fam to join him. Howard having been our beloved Governor, we had mixed feelings about giving him up to the national level. Moreover, we were busy with our third kid's end-of-Sept wedding, so didn't "join up" until October. Volunteered at Dean HQ, lurked on the blog first, and was posting by December. We were a force to be reckoned with. Meet Ups and Rock the Vote had that same energy. Howard Empowered. I see Dean People!

    2. Yes, it is truly remarkable that we have made and maintained friendships as we have through the blogs. My sincere thanks to everyone.

  3. It was the start of a revolution, People Power. Donald Trump was a throw-back, sort of a last gasp of the ugly male order. "Citizens enforce the jaw." I think it was great that the people sent Trump packing. Kudos to the 20,000 Georgia Republicans who left the top of the ticket blank.

  4. In the public discussion of the SCOTUS decision to overturn affirmative action in college admissions, I have yet to see any reference to how universities in California dealt with it; public universities found alternative methods of accomplishing the same ends. For instance, preferences based on family income and being the first in one's family to attend college. The results were not perfect, but far from a disaster as far as I know.

    1. Granted that the current SCOTUS's evident general contempt for res iudicata is troublesome.

    2. I've always held what would doubtless be considered a reactionary view of college admissions. IMO they should be based principally if not wholly on academic merit.

    3. But how do you assess academic merit? Almost all the standard measures can be affected by the opportunities you had growing up. Affirmative action, in its various forms, is a way to compensate for these inequitable prior opportunities.

  5. Dad's medical appointment today was just to check if the catheter could come out. It could and did. In about ten days time, he has a phone consult with the surgeon to discuss the pathology report and what comes next. So, everything seems pretty much on course.

    1. Ten days sounds like a reasonable amount of time for the pathology report and consideration of same. The amount of work and care involved is more than one would think.

    3. So far, so good. It's really hard to wait for a path report. I'm glad we have Alan's expertise to help us understand why it takes so long.

    1. I read the label on the nutgrass killer and realized it was only for use on lawns; I did a little weeding of non-grassy weeds among the flowers out in front, then packed it in. High for the day 103F, currently (5:45 PM) 101F with 24% humidity. Tomorrow and the next day supposed to reach 110F; discretion is the better part of valor. On Monday a cooling trend will set in: Monday 106, T 101, W 100, Th 99, F95, Sat 92, Sun 94. Yep, summer in Fresno.

  11. It was actually Justice Elena Kagan who wrote:
“the Court, by deciding this case, exercises authority it does not have. It violates the Constitution.”

President Biden was just agreeing with her.
