Red Elderberry?

I promise not to eat any of the berries until someone can confirm this as Elderberry.

  1. Wikipedia on elderberries [Click] Yes, they can be red. Leaves are described. Definitely toxic, although they can be edible if cooked.

    2. I should say that all parts of the plant are toxic if not cooked.

  2. Another nice looking day here; temperatures in the hundreds predicted starting next Friday (6/30). Two or three sandbars in the river bottom are just beginning to emerge.

  3. Why 101 people and a dog want to be Toronto's mayor [Click] This is even more than California’s 2003 gubernatorial recall election (135 candidates), which gave us tremendous choice! I remember particularly the lady in her nineties who obviously had more experience than any other candidate; the railway switchman (who better to get the state back on track?) and the judo expert (should have been good at wrestling with the legislature).

  6. Going to make elderberry wine, Listener?

Dad goes in tomorrow at noon (leaving the house at 11:30) for surgery at 1:30. The surgery is to break up/remove a large bladder stone, explore for bladder cancer and do something or other to the prostate (He's been pretty vague on that one). Please storm the heavens tomorrow afternoon.

Operation Birthday Card is under way. One of Sis's friends got confused as to the month and her card arrived Friday, to Dad's bemusement. Address cards to CAPT. B. Maxwell Ervin at my street address. This is gonna be great!

Listener, can you believe, the only pair of women's summer slippers at The Vermont Country Store is made in China? Needless to say, I did not order them. Beans has about a zillion women's slippers, but most of them emphasize that they are cozy and suitable for trekking to the mailbox in the snow. Sears seems to be kaput and I don't shop at Wal-Mart. so I'm at a loss as to where to find simple summer bedroom slippers.

    1. I understand that breaking up bladder stones has been done at least sometimes in recent years by use of ultrasound. Essentially they put the patient into a sort of bathtub and pump in ultrasound vibrations-- like an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner on a huge scale. Of course it may or may not be indicated for any particular patient Any idea if that is the technique they are going to use? [Excuse the idle curiosity, which does not have to be satisfied.]

    2. That's the way I thought it was done. Dad's been pretty vague not to say downright closed mouth about the whole thing.

    3. For slippers try isotoner. Their factory is in Ohio.

    4. I gave up and changed to some heavy, warm socks from Costco that don't constrict my ankles. The socks meant to double as slippers, with the little bits of rubber-like material on the bottom, tend to stick on the floor and come close to causing one to trip.

    6. Yes, those look OK, and the prices aren't bad. Might give them a try come winter. It doesn't have any clear indication of the sizes.

    7. I got some really nice leather slippers, unlined and without soles, from Manitobah Muk Luks. But I don't see that style on their website right now. So I would suggest going to Etsy.com and searching for "indigenous moccasins"! There are some gorgeous designs there. Unlined work great for Summer.

    8. I was thinking elderberry jam, but wine would also be nice. 😁

Oh gosh, please remind us of the correct birthdate for sending to Dad! 🎂

Meanwhile, we're going to storm Heaven and we won't take No for an answer!! ✨

  7. How the unconventional design of the Titan sub may have destined it for disaster [Click] Basic cause of failure speculated to be fatigue, as I had suspected. The design seems to have been worse than I suspected, and there were evidently no significant between-dive inspections.
