4PM, reported temperature 94F, river level hasn't changed since yesterday. I think we will have the weeding done in another three days, or maybe four. ---Alan
94F isn't hot here, just warm. And currently we are working in the back yard, which catches a nice breeze from the river bottom. Tomorrow we will be in the shade. We stay hydrated, and I take salt pills as needed. The weeds really got out of control; years ago a friend gave us some nice flowers and we didn't clean the roots well--they had bermuda grass, which has spread throughout most of our yard, front ant back. I plan to apply several doses of selective grass killer. I think we will get into the mitsuba tomorrow, and much of that we will just trim back with a line trimmer; it chokes out most weeds, including bermuda grass, while being itself pretty easy to pull out by the roots. We used to give a lot away at a couple of club meetings each year, but that doesn't happen any more. ---Alan
Got more done on the boat today...refreshed the silver stripe. (Our boat has a silver lining!) Managed to get it accomplished with about 15 min to spare, before a front came through with rain, colder temps and WIND!!
It looks like the motor will go on tomorrow, and the boat will be splashed (placed in the water) on Thursday, so we can sail it on Saturday to its new home port! Whoo hoo!! Hoping that the marina staff and the weather gods agree!
Thanks, Bill. Saturday may be the easier part. It's going to be COLD tonight and tomorrow, and blowing 30kts on Friday, which only leaves us Thursday to prep the dinghy and set the mooring line. Heh.
Will do! I don't think I'll get to actually sail on the boat the first day, but Wil and Sons will do the honours while I drive our pickup back to Vermont. I'm fine with that. It's going to be gusting to about 25mph at times, and that's not my cup of tea. But they'll have a blast. I will, however, get to do the naming ceremony on the boat.
(Susan) Google won't let me post a link. But Diane Finestein insisted to reporters that she's totally been in Congress all this time and voting every day. She's been gone for three months and doesn't seem to know it. She is REALLY in bad shape.
It's pitiful. She has always been too far to the right [big business friendly] for my tastes, but I voted for her until she voted for the invasion of Iraq. Her claim that she was deceived by Bush Jr. just doesn't hold water in my opinion. That guy from southern California running to replace her did the same thing and uses the same excuse, and it still doesn't hold water. As memory serves me, he also went through a rabid "tough on crime" period, so I figure that's three strikes. ---Alan

Wow, good for you! I admire your diligence with the weeding in hot temps, and I envy that you're so far along. I still haven't mulched!
