NYT: Dissecting Charges That Could Arise From the Trump Investigations [Click] “Prosecutors in New York, Georgia and the Justice Department face complex choices about what crimes to charge if they decide to indict Donald Trump.” Sounds like a job for the RICO statutes. It seems credible to me that Trump’s attorneys could raise a mental incompetence defense, but so far I have not read any report of that, and if accepted it normally results in confinement in a mental institution until cured. —Alan
I do not think malignant narcissism is curable. For starters, I would like to see him released to the supervision of the Secret Service and prohibited from accessing the press. While we might prefer a speedy resolution, "ultimately, the citizens enforce the law," so they have to be convinced. The U.S. has a long history of being fascinated by outlaws, most recently in the media, and, if anything, Humpty Trumpty is media made. It's not just the movies; it's also the comedy TV series and the soaps.
I now have the results of the PSMA PET scan. No distant metastases. Happy to hear this, although it doesn't immediately change anything. The testosterone-suppressing shot I got a couple of weeks ago should keep the cancer in check until I am due to get another in August. And I could continue that therapy indefinitely, as would have certainly been the case had there been metastases. I'll be talking to Dr. Leyland about curative therapy when I see him in August, however. I have the impression that he thinks at my age curative therapy might do more harm than good, but I want to talk about it now that we know metastases are not an issue.
Might have to wait a bit--Trump is the only source of the Tuesday estimate. The DA and law enforcement haven't said anything about it, and there were two additional witnesses today (I believe)-- one of Trump's buddies to counter Mr. Cohen, plus Mr. Cohen in rebuttal. There are all kinds of clickbait stories on YouTube that are making apparently wild claims about the schedule and the process. Atlanta Journal Constitution: Trump’s lawyers move to quash Ga. special grand jury report [Click] This seems to be a fairly good report. ——Alan
As memory serves me, the grand jury meets Monday, Wednesday, and sometimes half a day on Thursday. If I were a gambling man, I would bet on the arrest taking place on Monday or Tuesday of next week, so a judge would be available to handle the arrignment in New York soon after TFG's booking. Tuesday would be more likely than Monday, I think. A security detail for the judge and his or her family will probably be on standby for whoever needs it. ---Alan
