I clearly remember when I was a kid seeing a bunch of flatlanders, without life jackets, in an overloaded skiff, heading out of the harbor near Fort Bragg (CA), into a moderately heavy swell, with heavy fog coming in. I guess they had come to Fort Bragg to go ocean fishing, and go ocean fishing they would. I have no idea if they came back. There was a strong northbound current just offshore that could carry boats onto rocks that could be mistaken for the harbor entrance. ---Alan
1045 AM-- nice morning, if a little cool. Lots of blue sky, light wind, small cumulus clouds over the mountains. The river has risen a little--a matter of inches; now I have lost sight of my reference level--a line of shrubs on top of a sand bar. ---Alan
Great about the boat! What brand of 28 footer did he choose?
As for Grey's: I watched the first season and some of the second, but didn't like that they began to turn it into an evening soap opera. Was such good writing at the start.
Check out the movie True Spirit, about the 16 year old who circumnavigated the globe in a sailboat, alone and unaided. Impressive and based on her true story.

Oh, and in those days there were still a lot of commercial fishing boats that used sails to supplement their engines.

It seems to me that there is a need to have a scorecard for TFG's various legal adventures--it is hard to keep them straight.

ReplyDeleteJust finished 17 years of Grey's Anatomy, and ordered the 18th. Show continues to be fascinating on multiple levels.
BTW, my kid, after decades of sailing on his best friend (from high school)'s boat just bought his own. A 28 footer.
