“…the economy under Biden has shown extraordinary job growth—another 517,000 jobs added in January—and the unemployment rate is at a low that has not been seen since 1969 (not a typo). Inflation is dropping. Today, Carly Wanna at Bloomberg noted that since the Inflation Reduction Act became law, more than 100,000 clean energy jobs have been created in the U.S. After months of reports that we are on the brink of a recession, today Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the chances of a recession are low. “You don’t have a recession when you have 500,000 jobs and the lowest unemployment rate in 50 years,” she said.
“This economic news is not a blip; it is proof that Biden’s revival of the traditional understanding of how the economy works, shared by both parties before the 1980 election of Ronald Reagan, works.”
Next they might discover that the US needs immigrants. Granted that the US visa system has long been a mess, surely it can be improved. Canada can teach us some things in that regard. ---Alan
I am reminded that France controlled costs and improved operation safety by making all their nuclear reactors the same rather than developing each one by itself. That way any changes can be applied uniformly, and operators can move from one facility to another. I also see that France has decided to cover all large parking lots with solar panels, which they figure will provide as much electricity as eight large nuclear reactors. ---Alan
Hall-ooooooo! We watched the State of the Union Address. I'm pretty disgusted by the rudeness of this latest crop of Repugnants. President Biden did pretty well pushing back at them. At least he's comfortable on his old turf. And 72% of the people who watched the speech felt his policies would move the country in the right direction. 👍
The incivility of so many "Republicans" these days is in direct contrast with what used to be. In due course that should reduce their support in the country as a whole to the abysmal level they currently enjoy in California (for but one example). ----Alan
Ahead of tonight’s State of the Union address:

ReplyDeleteThe Real Obstacle to Nuclear Power—it’s not environmentalists—it’s the nuclear power industry itself. [Click] Doesn’t discuss either the thorium cycle or the continuous fuel feed system abandoned by the US and more recently developed by China.

Artur Rehi: Russia’s big offensive in Ukraine is happening now. [Click] Their grinding, suicidal advance in the east is the most that they can do. Sounds reasonable.

ReplyDeleteAh, correction: 72% were positive about the speech and 71% feel that the President's policies would move the country in the right direction.
