      Wil thought that very thing!
      He calls it Natural Selection.

    2. I had wondered if it might come to pass, but confirmation that it did is certainly interesting. I have my doubts that it will get extensive coverage on Faux Gnus--which is probably all to the good.

    1. Yeah, I heard about that on the Maverick Truck Club site. Not having a vehicle that has the lane-change alert feature makes mine less desirable. But it is interesting that having a car alarm can lower your insurance cost by maybe 10%.

  3. We had 70s here a few days ago, and now our highs are in the upper 30s and low 40s. We seem to have gone from early Autumn to Early Winter in just a few days. The cold is expected to stay through next week, and tonight and tomorrow morning we'll finally get a bit of SNOW! ☃️

    2. ( tend not to follow weather predictions, so I was surprised to see snow on the ground when I got up today. I'd guess maybe a half inch or a bit less. Current temp is 35F, but no real sign of melting. Predicted highs in the 20s Fri-Sun.

    3. It's been a too-quick shift this year from 70's to 30's. I wonder if the planet is losing its buffer.

    1. ALAN sent this update:

Mariusz Gierszewski, the reporter for Poland’s ZET Radio who initially wrote that stray Russian rockets had hit Poland, tweeted an update saying that the remains of a shot-down rocket were probably what hit eastern Poland.
      Gierszewski tweeted:

"My sources in the services say that what hit Przewodowo is most likely the remains of a rocket shot down by the armed forces of Ukraine."

    2. Poland says the missiles were Russian made.
Biden is meeting with world leaders in an emergency roundtable meeting in Bali about the explosion.

    3. And Russia claims to have incorporated the territory held by separatists they have armed. That's the only other aread from which a Russian-made missle could plausibly have been fired.

  5. I really want Katie Porter to win. I so admire her and I'll be sad if she loses.
I made my delivery of Blankets for America today. I think we started in 2004 or so because of Howard Dean and today our number of donated items reached 9,265. After all these years and some losses to death we're down to a small core group, but we're still working. For the next couple of weeks I'll be spending all my sewing time making toys.
About 2004 I was active and physically present in the Democratic Party of Dayton. We had a Christmas Party for the homeless and I watched women bust their way into the children's gift section and literally walk out with 33-gallon black plastic bags full of toys. At the end of the night a small family showed up late to the party and I will never forget the sight of two poor little boys hopelessly pawing through the broken remains of the few toys that had not been snatched up. Just another one of the things that makes me really dislike people and do all I can do to neutralize the harm they do --especially to children.

    1. So far, so good, Susan! Katie is 13,772 votes (1.6%) ahead of Scott Baugh, and the vote is 84% counted.

You are one of the people I admire, Susan. You have such a good heart and look at all you have done all these years! Ally's hat comes to mind frequently. And I haven't forgotten the fans (which I still use!) and the game you sent for my grands...and now these amazing quilts! Your story about children makes me all the more glad that I gave the Butterfly quilt to VT*Grand. Today she tested negative! One more day and her Mom will let her back into the rest of the house. Her Dad (our Eldest) has now come down with Covid, though. So the Teen Apartment is getting switched over to the Bachelor Pad.
Anyway, you're good people, Susan. And I love you for it more than you know. ❤️

  6. THIS JUST IN!

Biden says it's "unlikely" missile that fell in Poland was fired from Russia
From CNN's Maegan Vazquez and Kevin Liptak
US President Joe Biden said that preliminary information suggests it is unlikely the missile that caused an explosion in Poland on Tuesday and killed two civilians was fired from within Russia.

Speaking to reporters after meeting with other world leaders in Bali, Indonesia, the president was asked if it was too early to say whether the projectile was fired from Russia.

"There is preliminary information that contests that. I don’t want to say that until we completely investigate it," Biden responded.

He added that "it’s unlikely in the minds of the trajectory that it was fired from Russia. But we’ll see."

Earlier, Russia's Defense Ministry said reports of Russian missiles landing in Poland was a "deliberate provocation."

How humanity created 'sky puppies' [Click]

Ancient fish teeth reveal earliest sign of cooking [Click] Cooked at low temperature rather than roasted, presumably by Homo erectus given the age of the remains.

Modern humans left Africa much earlier than previously thought [Click] Far enough back in time that the 130,000 year old butchered mammoth remains found near San Diego could be the work of Homo sapiens rather than Homo erectus. This story reports a method (unfortunately not well described) of identifying Homo sapiens that I had not heard of before, by examination of teeth.

    2. Definitely! And if they don't offer the choice, it is blatant anti-ooism!

  9. Surprised no one has yet noted that the Donald is now an official candidate for president. Don't know how many Democratic politicians have emailed me about this. The Republican primaries should be interesting. One question, assuming those primaries continue to be winner-take-most/all, is now many challengers DT will have.

    1. As for me, I intend to shun him completely...in the fine tradition of the Quakers. Like Stephen Colbert, I do not utter his name...not out of fear (as with Voldemort), but out of disgust. I would rather hear the sound of nails on a chalkboard than his voice. (And that truth goes back to way before he ever thought of running for office.) He is not worth wasting my thoughts on.
