    1. Where and when I grew up summertime [ocean] water temperatures were in the upper 30's F; in the winters it could fall into the upper 20's. It was said that after half an hour in such cold water most people normally couldn't swim, although I know for a fact that some people could swim for an hour. But certainly the probability of finding the fellow was very low. At first I thought it was strange the ship that found him didn't stop, lower a boat, and bring him aboard--- but probably a helicopter could get the job done faster, and thanks to GPS could go straight to the exact spot.

    2. Well, after going to the men's room at 11:00pm, he wasn't reported missing until noon the next day.

    1. Banning ownership is probably impossible. But banning purchase and sale is easy peasy. Open carry should be akin to disturbing the peace.

    2. Banning sale or possession of ammunition acts much faster than targeting the guns themselves. I read about a policeman who bought an AR-15 or something similar so he could practice at a gun range and know how to use it if one were issued to him for an operation, but after he retired he gave it up because the bullets were so expensive-- a dollar each.
