  1. The older of the two surviving cats who were abandoned by our former next-door neighbors seems to be dying. He hasn't been eating or drinking for a couple of days, and for the past day has been curled up in the same spot. Still breathing, not in any evident distress. We think he is about fifteen years old. Yesterday I watered the spot next to his companion so I could dig a hole--I think I will move the hose a bit this morning and soften some more ground.

So good of you to adopt the abandoned pussems and grant them a long life and decent burial.

  3. It looks like I picked up Covid-19 the last day of Chicon 8. The symptoms, which started last night, are essentially those of a cold -- runny nose and a bit of fatigue -- but the Covid test is positive.

    1. May it continue mild and be gone quickly. Were you vaccinated to the full extent of the law?

    2. Yes, two boosters, the second about six weeks ago.

    3. Ah Bill...I'm relieved to hear it's mild...no doubt thanks to you being boosted. May it continue mild!
Since one can't get the new booster until two months past the last dose, and one needs to wait two weeks after having Covid and testing negative again, it sounds like those two time constraints will dovetail nicely.

Do take care and please keep checking in.

  4. Still pretty darn hot here, no rain in the extended weather forecast, but heavy clouds are moving in from the south. 5:20 PM local time.

    3. Oh, yes--she was valedictorian of her university class in Japan-- in the days when it was extemely unusual for women to have more than a junior college education. Majored in English-American literature. At least her immediate family voted Socialist--the Socialist Party was locally powerful and did a lot of good things for the people of the prefecture (e.g. free ambulance service).

    6. Japan's Socialist Party was on the verge of gaining control of the upper house of the Diet (parliament) when it imploded. Political parties can do that even today. Granted that Japanese political parties are fragile coalitions compared to European and US parties.

  6. The iPhone Isn’t Cool [Click] “Once upon a time, Apple’s new-device announcements were magic. Then everyone bought an iPhone.” I would be very pleased if the wireless phone companies were again to work with my old Nokia 2G candy bar feature phone. I have a 4G android phone disguised as a feature phone, and it is both 13 times the price and less convenient.
